Ben Fennell -   Glad the Packers didn't break the bank for Hooper Honestly, I'd rather guys like Nick Vannett, David Morgan, or Jacob Hollister to plug into LaFleur's offense Not the sexiest crop, but those are tough TE3/TE4 glass-eaters that do the dirty work for you - and with a smile!

Zach Kruse -  Bryan Bulaga was an absolute warrior for the Packers. Sad to see him go. Some team is going to get a really, really good player.

Andy Herman - Of all the Packers news today, the absolute best news is that they didn’t give highest paid TE in football money to Austin Hooper.

Peter Bukowski - Now is a good time to remind everyone, one of the main reasons Brian Gutekunst is currently the Packers GM is because the Texans wanted to interview him. Green Bay decided they couldn't let him get away.

Matt Schneidman -  I just read two tweets saying the Broncos are in on Tom Brady and the Packers are in on Amari Cooper. NFL Twitter has lost its damn mind already.

@Leader, was that earlier Twitter thing from around the time we signed Gute as our GM?  Because I read it as Gute was meeting with O’Brien today or something.

Correct. The Texans were looking to talk to (potentially hire) Gute. The GBPs interceded.

Aaron Nagler -  Mark Murphy literally called Gutekunst while he was out for dinner with Bill O'Brien.

I’m trying hard to interpret what this means and what the context is and I don’t understand.

When we hired Gute as GM, he was at dinner with the Texans owner/BOB and they were likely going to offer him their GM position. Murphy called him at the dinner and offered the job so we didn't lose him

Bill Huber/SI - If Bryan Bulaga signs a contract worth $10 million per season, $12 million per season or even more, it will be almost impossible to fault general manager Brian Gutekunst from moving on from the Green Bay Packers’ longtime starting right tackle. However, replacing Bulaga with Rick Wagner can’t possibly be viewed as an upgrade from a pure performance perspective.

Performance: In 2019, Wagner was the sixth-worst offensive tackle in the NFL (minimum 700 snaps) with a blown-block rate of 4.0 percent on runs and passes, according to Sports Info Solutions. On running plays, Wagner gave up five stuffs, defined as a running play that’s stopped at or behind the line of scrimmage. His stuff rate of 1.8 percent was the second-worst among offensive tackles.
Injury history: Everyone knows Bulaga’s injury history, with trips to injured reserve in 2012 (hip), 2013 (knee) and 2017 (knee). Wagner, however, hasn’t exactly been a picture of health. In three seasons with the Lions, he missed three games in 2017 (ankle), one game in 2018 (concussion) and four games in 2019 (three with a knee, one with a concussion). He also missed the end of the 2014 season with a Lisfranc foot injury.
Age: Wagner is 30 – about six months younger than Bulaga.

Wagner was the #4 tackle in the NFL from PFF in 2017. He gutted out a knee this year and stunk and is on even more of a decline than BB, hence the discount, but if we can keep him healthy, he's a top 12 RT in the league. Bulaga very well may have been #1 RT this year, what a year he put together. We had like a 2020 3/4 pickup in Bulaga and we traded it for a 2016 with some more dings and dents, but it's better than Alex Light who is currently a Geo Metro.

Agreed. He's an affordable stop gap. Not great. Not terrible.

It is what it is in a salary cap world.

Be interesting to see how high OT (or a G to OT project) gets selected in the draft.
