Minnesota Vikings outside linebackers coach and pass rush specialist Mike Smith is taking a leave of absence from the team.

According to Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune, Smith is taking a leave of absence for personal reasons. Assistant head coach Mike Pettine will coach the position group in his place. Defensive assistant Imarjaye Albury will help coach the unit, too.

Why yes, Florio, you DO have the ability to make objective rankings and justify them rather than putting out clickbait and calling it such on Twitter.

How on earth can he objectively say that he thinks the Packers are better than the Vikings right now?

Because he hates Kirk Cousins.

I honestly used to enjoy Florio and PFT, but it's gotten sooo bad over the last 3 years or so. Especially the articles Florio writes.

He is a Vikings fan, that's why he has the Packers ahead of them...it's out of spite.  It's all about expecting the worst, so he can set himself up to be pleased (at least in private, he'll probably never say it in public).

And @wcblack34, I don't think he "hates" Kirk, per se...but, he believes that he can only bring his team so far, which I personally believe still holds true.  He can always put the team in position to win, but he still ultimately needs others to put them over the top. He can't singlehandedly put the team on his back and carry them.  And that's what Florio looks for and wants in his QB.  A lot of the top echelon QBs can do that, through their arms and/or legs.

Kirk, as great as he has been for the Vikings, can only do what he can do...he doesn't have those talents that they do.  He has about maximized what his talent provides...and it's been pretty damn good, but it has it's limits.  While often used as a derogatory term (which I don't want to use it as) Kirk is probably the best "game manager" style  QB of his generation.

Nah, I agree with @wcblack34. He has his own personal issues with Kirk that are outside of football. Many do. He just seems to bring it into his work.

I just want to know what's the point of publishing an "unofficial" depth chart.  Are they going to publish an official one?  Or is it going to be like the Gophers now in that you have no real idea who is where on the depth chart just to keep you (and supposedly the opposition) in limbo?

Might not be to others but a bit surprising Cine is listed as a backup. Doesnt necessarily mean he wont play because i think weve ran or shown a lot with 3 safeties

They're going to find a way to get all 6 safeties in the game, I think. I don't know that Cine will be playing a lot of snaps until he shows more, but I think Flores probably has ideas about how they want to use them. For now though, Cine should take it upon himself to prove himself on Special Teams. He hasn't earned a starting spot yet. In fact, I'd say that realistcally, he's probably 4th on the depth chart.

Youre probably right when you say that. I hope we can see more and some significant improvements from the former 1st rounder.
