We just have to be so cautious because of our cap situation. When you have $15 million in cap space you're not supposed to have 4-5 major position holes on your team. Our roster simply is not in great shape and hasnt been for the last few years as these back-end contracts have come to toll and our drafts have been devoid of adequate talent to fill in the gaps.

The comment was made in jest. Really I don't know how we can do much more until some contracts are restructured.

So we cut Thomas huh?

Nice. Add ILB to OL, WR, CB and S to positions we have no depth at.

We're one injury away at so many positions from having an LOL worthy starter and the cap we have has to be used to sign a respectable DB.

So much for trading up, if anything we need more than 12 picks.

We only let one guy go at WR and Monty's supposed to move to WR frequently this year. We basically just signed a massive WR in Jimmy Graham and Michael Clark gives us a vertical threat as well. ILB has plenty of depth as well because CMIII moves inside a lot and we all want Jack Cichy in the later rounds as is. DB will be fine as well...

No but he is viable and productive NFL player who can do the job for you. He's already 28 years old and only established himself as a starting quality corner after being a journeyman for much of his career. His next team will be the 5th team of his career.

The Packers Notes guy has Melvin and Gaines in his top 3 free agent outside corners.

  1. Butler
  2. Melvin
  3. Gaines
  4. Johnson
  5. Breeland

2018 FREE AGENT PROSPECTS
Rashaan Melvin, CB, Indianapolis Colts

The Butler sweepstakes won’t be without its fair share of suitors, which could push Green Bay and their shallow pockets towards a less-coveted veteran cornerback in Rashaan Melvin.

Melvin earned a career-high 85.7 overall grade with the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. He also ranked 12th in passer rating allowed (60.3) and 20th in run-stop percentage (3.0) among qualifying cornerbacks this past season.

Given his slow start in the NFL, Melvin is expected to sign a short-term, incentive-laden deal, as teams will need to see that he’s much more than a one-year wonder before he inks a long-term contract. As such, the Packers could benefit from throwing their hand in the ring as a low-risk, high-reward investment.
