I'd say he's gonna get 30 mil a year . The jets be crazy to even think of 40 mil a year that's basically baseball money.

In 5 years that will be the going rate, watch.

Absurd, but on the horizon. Especially when QB's like Cousins can somehow net 30!

Next year guys like Wilson and Newton will break the record . If Kirk cousins does go to the jets for 30 mil I wouldn't be shocked . But 40 million dollars is ridiculous .

Having played more games than Jimmy doesn't make Cousins better. Ryan Leaf played more games than Jimmy.

Cousins is a slightly above avg QB at his peak. Jimmy has an opportunity 5o be great.

It doesnt make him better but at least there is a larger body of work and therefore seems to be less risk involved. Its not like Cousins is terrible. He is miles better than Leaf was ever. Derek Anderson was good 1 year and flamed out too if we’re throwing out weird comparisons. Doesnt mean Jimmy G is going to be Anderson. Jimmy G is awesome, loved him coming out of school and think he will be great but he still has a very small sample size. That comes with risk. Teams will have more tape on him and try and pick up on things. I think Jimmy got alot more money than most people expected given his body of work even though the cap increases and QBs are getting paid a ton

Will Cousins get more than Jimmy? Yes. I don't think anyone in their right mind would bet against that.

In terms of who is more valuable/risky? Jimmy is a bigger risk because of the small sample size. The 49ers are betting that he is what he showed in those 6 games. Will his production tail off once defensive coordinators have enough tape to better game plan against him? Maybe...maybe not.

Cousins is a bit of risk as well. He had a down year last year. But prior to this past year, he was a player who was getting better each year. Is 2016 an outlier in Cousins' career? If so, than the $30 mil is an over pay. But if he performs at the 2016 level for the majority of his contract, than he is worth $30 mil.

It's going to be interesting to look back at the Alex Smith trade, Cousins signing, and Jimmy trade to see who won and who loss.

Great, like completing 70% of his passes, throwing 29 TDs and having a rating over 101 at age 27?

I'm saying if he continues to improve hr could become a great QB in regards to the level of QB it takes to be considered truly great. Idk if he will rise to Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger level.

It is called FA and unlike Garp, there will be around 3 or 4 teams bidding for Cousin's contract, likely the Jets, Browns, Arizona and Denver, so 35 million a year, is not out of the question. QB's like Cousins, never come into FA and given the importance of the position in winning football games, somebody will pay the price and almost all of it will be guaranteed!!!

Former Cap Guy Andrew Brandt with his thoughts on Cousins next deal

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/02/20/nfl-free-agency-2018-kirk-cousins-quarterback-market

"The bigger problem for Cousins, having been a team executive, is the draft. The consensus seems to suggest that four or five quarterbacks could be selected in the first round—and these four or five teams that need quarterbacks are likely to be selecting these players. A few of the previously mentioned teams own top-10 draft picks, and some reports state that the Bills are trying to move some of the picks they have accumulated to move up to draft a quarterback as well. Will a team spend top-tier free-agent quarterback money on a veteran quarterback in March and then draft his future replacement in April ?"

Yes, but not if it's Kirk Cousins! The Sam Bradford's , Keenums, Bridgewater's, Taylor's, Fitzpatrick's of the NFL. Sure there's reasons, justification for a possible draft replacement. However it makes no sense whatsoever to draft a Rookie QB (using that draft capital) after signing what you just sold the Fan Base on as your new FQBOTF. Especially at $30m a year.

Zero Sense!
