Cheese Curds: Green Bay Packers Updates

Gary’s injury didn’t look too bad. Might be a stinger or a mild concussion. He walked off the field, was carted to the locker room, but walked in.

Didn’t watch closely but didn’t see him make any big plays before he got hurt.  Might have produced a pressure on a stunt where he looped through the middle.

...

The game was in Winnipeg and turned into a fiasco. The CFL goalposts had to be moved and that left a hole in each end zone which for whatever stupid reason wasn’t repaired. So they played on an 80 yard field, with the 10 yard lines as the goal lines and the end zones ending at the goal lines. Bush league stuff from the grounds crew in Winnipeg, but it’s amazing the NFL didn’t bother to check the field early enough to catch the problem and fix it.

Game was sparsely attended as tickets were originally way overpriced (price was later lowered). Packers sat 33 players including all their starters, so the few handfuls of Canadian fans who dropped hundreds on tickets got to watch Tim Boyle vs Mike Glennon, instead of the expected Rodgers vs Carr dress rehearsal.

Between this and the fiasco in Mexico City last year, before the NFL considers expanding international play, they need to plan things like this better.  They fumble these almost as often as Ameer Abdullah.

Nah, I just know a lot of obnoxious Cheeseheads.  You can't blame Vikings fans for enjoying a bit of schadenfreude in our own forum.

sure i can, it's rude and crass. a guy goes down with an injury who hasn't even played a down yet in a regular season game and you call him a bust. it's unnecessary, it's petty. and the Vikings forum is better than that.

You hit the nail on the head Krauser with both the Gary take and the game in general. Was really hoping to see Rodgers a series but eh whatever. Concern for the Gary injury doesn't seem to be very high right now. Still worries me some though. Neck injuries can be tricky.

Breaking news:  Rashan Gary (a.k.a. Justin Harrell 2.0) has been carted off the field.

Gary was not carted off like the reports said.  He walked, then hopped onto a cart as a precaution.  He's doing fine.  As far as Justin Harrell, you're not alone in thinking he's going to bust.  Lots of Packer fans are not quite optimistic about him.  I'd just suggest caution with statements like this.  There was that quote of yours where you gleefully welcomed in the Rodgers era.

Every team has busts.  Every team also has hits.  Can't really tell until about their third or fourth season.  Davante Adams is proof of that.  So is Laquon Treadwell.

According to multiple reports, receiver Equanimeous St. Brown suffered a sprained ankle at the end of the first half of the game. It’s a high ankle sprain, so St. Brown is in line to miss somewhere in the neighborhood of four to six weeks while he recovers, but things looked like they might be more dire when he first went down on Thursday.

St. Brown was a sixth-round pick last year and caught 21 passes for 328 yards during his rookie season.

Packers and Raiders was the weirdest game I've seen in a while. The turf had a dull, washed-out look to it, and does anyone know why the 10-yard line was considered the endzone? The commentary was painful. At least the Packers lost, and like us, the Raiders are undefeated in preseason.

A problem with the conditions in the end zones at IG Field in Winnipeg forced the contest with the Raiders to be played on a modified field, and ultimately led to Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur resting his starting lineups on both sides of the ball.

With a safety hazard in the end zones due to moving the goal posts after the field was re-lined to NFL specifications, it was decided to play the game on an 80-yard field. The 10-yard lines serving as the goal lines, and there were no kickoffs.

Not Ted Thompson's best pick.

Josh Jones was drafted one spot ahead of JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The don’t-call-it-a-purge roster turnover continues.

We’ll see if Jones can follow in the footsteps of other ex-Packers DBs who developed into better players elsewhere after leaving GB.
