2018 Draft Eligible WR Thread

I'm really suprised to see Christian Kirk left off so many top 5 lists here.   I know he's small, but his success early on in his career and his skill set really is a sharp contrast to the jump ball, tall dudes with less production and I suspect less elite athletic traits.  Unlike speed-only lid-lifters, Kirk has major YAC elusiveness combined with his speed.   Obv. the Combine will have to be huge for Kirk, but I could see him really surge up.  Horrible QB play really had more to do with his underwhelming 2017 than anything else IMO.

Agreed, he's a talent - but the statline for this year was underwhelming which is why he's probably under the radar a bit. I think he's held in higher esteem by NFL evaluators when the likes of Daniel Jeremiah brings him up.

Ranks so far:

  1. Calvin Ridley (1st)
  2. Courtland Sutton (2nd)
  3. Anthony Miller (2nd)
  4. Christian Kirk (2nd)
  5. Antonio Callaway (2nd)
  6. Cedrick Wilson (3rd)
  7. DJ Moore (3rd)
  8. Dante Pettis (3rd/4th)
  9. James Washington (3rd/4th)
  10. Equanimeous St. Brown (3rd/4th)
  11. Auden Tate (3rd/4th)
  12. Jaleel Scott (3rd/4th)
  13. Simmie Cobbs (3rd/4th)
  14. Michael Gallup (4th)
  15. Deon Cain (4th)

Seems like this draft has a large amount of big jump ball WRs who can't separate (Brown, Tate, Scott, Cobbs) and I'm having a hard time distinguishing amongst them.

I have him neck-and-neck with Ridley as the top WRs in this class.

Callaway has 2nd round talent, but I wouldn't touch him before the 5th with his rap sheet attached to his name.

I think you're too low on Deon Cain. He's got excellent deep speed and goes up and gets the football as good as anyone. He's a great outside WR and a fit for the "X" WR position. He's one of the rare ht/wt/spd guys in this class.

Braxton Berrios is a stud. He should be on everyone's list of top 15 WR's in my opinion. He's not nearly as fast as Steve Smith (89) was, but they play similarly, win similarly, and have diverse games despite their popcorn sized frames. Berrios looks like a slot WR, but he wins in ways that outside WR's do. Plus he's an awesome blocker. If Miami had a QB without herpes in his eye sockets this season, he would be getting 2nd round buzz.

Not sure if he's a top 15 guy, but I LOVE DaeShon Hamilton from Penn State. He's not nearly as good as Anthony Miller, but they are similar players in the way they win. He's not overly big or fast, but he runs great routes, catches the ball consistently, and has excellent footwork and open field vision for RAC. He'll probably be in my top 15 WR's when I put together a list.

Jester Weah from Pittsburgh is another underrated WR. He's got a big frame, runs awesome routes, has big hands, and doesn't drop anything. He is pretty slow and unexplosive, but I love his ability to make in-traffic catches and uncover with route running and body positioning. He's not a top 15 guy and the combine will only push his stock down, but I'd be shocked if he's not in the league in 5 years. He's got some James Jones to his game.

As far as the Christian Kirk buzz goes? I'm a big Kirk fan more after this season than last season to be honest. He was one of those guys that was supremely overrated at the start of the year, people caught on, and has now become underrated as people began to poop on his draft stock. This "stock correction" happens all the time and it drives me crazy. He isn't a top 5 pick like some were arguing before the season, but he's also not a 3rd round pick either. He's a dude that should go in the bottom half of the 1st round to a team that needs a deep threat. He has more skill tracking the ball than people think and he's not just a screen guy or a speed guy. Sure his speed is his best attribute, but he can make contested catches and go get the ball at the high point. His QB play wasn't great this year and teams focused their coverage on him. When teams played straight up base defense on him, he ate them alive. He's tough as nails, excellent after the catch, and has quickness to pair with his long speed.

I have him quite a bit below Calvin Ridley (who I think has top 10 talent), but if I'm staring at a WR board that has Courtland Sutton and Christian Kirk on it at the start of round 2, I am sprinting to the podium with Kirk's name on the card.

Yeah people over corrected on his draft stock for sure. It kind of reminds me of JuJu last year. Before the year he had some big hyped and in a lot of the early early early mock drafts he was a top 15 pick then he had an injury plagued, somewhat down year and fell to the second round after being picked apart all draft season about not being able to separate and now look at the year he had.

Admittedly, I haven't really watched much of him since the hype got out of hand but I saw a slot-only WR when I saw Kirk.

If he’s only a slot guy I’d get it.  I just see a guy in the mold of a Corey Coleman (yet to fulfill the promise) or Steve Smith - can take you deep, great YAC ability and elusive to get open short.  The Combine will have to show elite traits (non-40 drills) to show explosion / short area burst / catch radius) and shed the “too small/speed-only” label he’s been given.  It’s ironic though that Ridley ends up probably 15-20 lbs lighter but won’t get the same concerns raised.

Is Goedert the best TE in this class?

I think it's Mark Andrews barely. Goedert is close. There is no stud in-line blocker. All of these guys are flawed, but there are a slew of pass catching specialists.

What the hell happened to the stock of Mike Geiseki? He has fallen off a little bit. I still like him as a 2nd-3rd round pick, but I've hardly heard his name this year.

Gesicki is better than Jesse James as a prospect. I think he’ll go late 2nd. He’s just not a flashy player so the hype kind of wanes.

Average to above average TEs are a dime a dozen in the NFL.  With the mediocre athleticism of guys like Gesicki and Fumagalli I just don’t think they offer much upside and thus not that much value.
