If it was really about what is easiest, track or wrestling would be the most popular sport worldwide. You don't need anything except shoes. Having followed it even just a little bit, soccer is simple in its rules but nuanced in its play, especially at a high level. It's popular worldwide for the same 2 reasons that poker is so popular worldwide: it has a low bar to entry AND a potential for very high levels of expertise.

Why would other countries not just adopt these better sports Then it would be equally easy for other countries to do that. Point being it cant be easier to play soccer and at the same time not be easier. The idea of kicking an object on the ground is thousands of years old. That's all soccer is. It's a sport that is embedded into older cultures. It's easy to pick up a football and throw it, but the actual sport of football is much more than that, so little kids from foreign countries that don't have generations of American football experience are probably more likely to kick a soccer ball around because that's easy and the actual sport of soccer is as simple as that. Sports like baseball and basketball are relatively simple too and that's why they're more popular than American football globally, but just like American football they haven't been around as long. The countries with the highest standard of living almost universally follow soccer. The major exceptions are Japan (which loves baseball far more than football) and the US. The low bar for entry is a help for soccer's popularity in poor countries, but there is a good deal more appeal to it than just the relatively low cost compared to football. What's especially funny about this whole thing is that satisfaction from being able to throw things accurately actually is a product of our evolution. We used to hunt by throwing spears and sticks at our prey, then overwhelming it in packs. So you could make an evolutionary argument that a game based around "guy throws thing at other guy, then lots of guys try and tackle him" is way more "simple and embedded into people" than a game where you have to use your feet or head.

As I learn about soccer I am starting to compare it to NASCAR, which is a sport I like, there is just a lot more to it than just kicking the ball around the field

There isnt really a way to know if the top athletes could learn soccer specific skills. But soccer is the only world renowned sport so its not like we can point to other sports that we dominate the rest of the world at, that they cant say they dont really care about it.
