I feel good about it too, but the Falcons would love nothing more than to spoil the Saints season.

And don’t forget. The super bowl is in their house this year. Absolute last last last thing they want is us in their dome in February. So this Thursday is kind of their super bowl (as close as they’ll get to it anyway) and they’ll probably play like it. For a while at least. Maybe 3 quarters. ;)

So they won't get as much love, but I wanted to take a post and highlight the improvements on the D. We started like the historically bad defense of the past, but for most of the season they've become really good. Some stats:

DVOA Weeks 1-3: 31st

DVOA Weeks 4-11: 12th

PPG Weeks 1-3: 31.6

PPG Weeks 4-11: 19.4

This is from another Saints fan site, but here is the Saints D ranks since Apple was acquired:

Interceptions - T-1st (7)

Scoring D - T-5th (19 PPG)

Total D - 13th (346.5 Yards/game)

Takeaways - 3rd (8)

Actually right now, we give up a lower PPG than both KC and the Rams.

Essentially this post wanted to say that while we had a horrid start to the season defensively, since then at worst they've been league average. Realistically I think they've been better, and I honestly think the turn around is due to 3 players. Rankins, Anzalone and Apple. Rankins being disruptive in the middle has allowed our pass rush to be really effective and generating pressure. Anzalone being a LB who can drop into coverage effectively has helped coverage in the short areas and lastly Apple has freed up the safeties to help in other areas. Those combined, I'd argue we've played like a top 10 D more than a middling one.

Falcon games are always a toss up. The best rivalry in the NFL, and these games are always close. Normally I pick us splitting the season with them, but with their losses to the Browns and Dallas in the particular fashions they lost, I think they've checked out mentally. It'll be tough sledding till the 3rd, then we'll pull away I reckon. We'll also be better on Ridley thank god. Scheduling gods actually helped us on this year too. Back-to-back TNF games at home (ATL) and then a short trip to Dallas is great, especially considering we have a 10 day break after that. Should really help us rest up for the end stretch. Especially against the Panthers.

34-17 Saints

Also, all in favor of having @Dome drawn and quartered if we some how come up short this week? ;)

Just imagine once Davenport gets back and is healthy.  He was really starting to have the light turn on and that in turn made it even easier for Rankins...

If Tre'Quan sits with an injury, who do y'all think would be in line to be the #3 target in the passing game (behind Thomas and Kamara)?(only counting the WRs and TEs)

You never really know with this offense, but if I had to guess I would say either Ben Watson or maybe Brandon Marshall if he plays.

Ben Watson or Mark Ingram (RB I know) could see a bump. Marshall too, but maybe not yet.

Dan Arnold is an interesting guy getting sprinkled in more and more. He caught 65 passes for almost 1,200 yards and 16 TDs as a senior last year

It's throwing darts at that point.  Could be anyone.  I'd lean towards Watson though.

Kirkwood. Not sure Marshall is up to speed yet.

I would think Kirkwood. He's looked impressive in his small sample size. i like the kid.

Also, have you guys seen the Falcons forum? It's absolutely dead. Not a single post since Nov. 1. I mean even when they win they are dead. Kind of sad.

It wasn't that way on the old site IIRC. I think for some reason a lot of their fans didn't come over in the site switch. You can always go through their subreddit to get a sense of what they're thinking but it's also kind of dead.

Two things I learned from last nights game, KC vs LA. First, Brees is the clear cut MVP. We don't see him with 5 costly turnovers in primetime. He's done what he has against better defensive competition. Secondly, I am not afraid of either of those teams heading towards a possible Super Bowl.

Lets cook some bird Thursday

But I do agree, Brees is having arguably his best season ever. He's limiting his turnover worthy throws like last year (even more so), but his volume stats are still ridiculous at the same time. However, If Mahomes throws 13 more touchdown passes over the next 5  even I would give it to him. Really easy to overlook just about anything when you see that 50 in the touchdown column. We should be used to seeing Brees have MVP caliber campaigns overlooked/overshadowed by now anyway.

If Mahomes has 50, I'd give it to him, except in one case:

Saints have the better record, and Brees INTs are still mega low.  In that scenario, you can easily make the case that Brees, by not turning the ball over, was worth more wins than Mahomes throwing 50 while turning the ball over.
