We mostly haven’t needed to because we’ve been able to just run out the clock after getting up early.
ARTMONK HOF
Really pitiful how this game was officiated.
Thaiphoon
Poor defense. Stupid INTs by Colt Bad officiating Missed XP In THAT order, cost us the game.
e16bball
That’s a star player in the league who has a serious history of concussions. If you’re not gonna bother to call that obvious head shot, why waste time with any of these dumb new rules??
MKnight82
Honestly with all the turnovers, all the bad calls by the refs, we lost this game just because of two big plays given up on defense.

In those games, our defense hasn't acted like a sieve for the opposing offense like they did today.

lavar703
The league has created a monster with the no criticisms allowed of officials. They’re getting exactly what they want.

Yeah our defense was terrible today, but they would have been on the field much less without all the INTs.

Yup, the secondary, which has been a strength up until the Falcons game, has really taken a turn for the worse.

He's going to be 35 entering next season, coming off a very serious injury, and honestly he's never proven he can win games when it matters. Colt McCoy is a career backup, Smith's return is highly questionable. We cannot count on either as our starter next year. We have to draft a replacement QB. We have no choice. naptownskinsfan
Neither Smith or McCoy is a QB of the future right now. Neither is a promising option moving forward. We have to draft a new quarterback, especially if we have to carry the Smith cap hit for another year. Roll with the punches.

I’m all for drafting a replacement QB, but I don’t want to have to force a rookie QB to play if he’s not ready. We have to pay Smith regardless, might as well throw him in there and prevent our rookie QB from getting killed and developing bad habits.

The NFL rules for covering receivers and how they protect quarterbacks basically make that transition period irrelevant. The only reason to withhold someone for a season is if they are coming from a drastically different offense that doesn't operate with pro-style concepts. Pat Mahomes, who came out of Texas Tech, is a good example of someone who needs to sit.

Pat Mahomes, who came out of Texas Tech, is a good example of someone who needs to sit. Which describes plenty of the offenses in college football right now. Smith has already proven a valuable resource in developing a young QB (Mahomes has given Smith a ton of credit for his development). I would follow the Reid model: draft a QB high that you believe in, sit him for a year behind Smith, and let him take over next year.
