There are only two pure kickers in the Hall of Fame.

Jan Stenerud

Morten Andersen

Adam Vinatier as an absolute lock will be the 3rd. However Gostkowski's resume is quite undeniable. He became just the 3rd kicker to get his 3rd ring (interestingly enough since the Cowboys Kicker from 92-93 didn't make it in 95 and the 70s Steelers had on guy for their first 3 but not the 4th).

He has the most Super Bowl appearances with 6 (Vinatieri would of had 6 but was injured). However kickers are arguably very limited in terms of impacting team success in the traditional sense. They may decide games but they have nothing to do with setting themselves up as the team gets them the field position. Vinatieri made tough kicks and Anderson was around for ever (As has Vinatieri been).

Gostkowski might not have as many iconic kicks but his playoff percentage is 88.6% to Vinatieri's 81.1% but he did miss 4 extra points in 92 attempts whereas Vinatieri missed just one albeit in 71 attempts but at age 46.

All in all the backlog with more teams and more seasons in the books is very real. Receivers such as Tim Brown and Cris Carter waiting while lineman still get the snub means a kicker like Gostkowski might have to wait a while. Which is why the poll asks when you think he gets in with still that NEVER option.

He's got to get to at least 20 seasons before it's even a question. He just finished his 13th. Stenerud played 19, Andersen played 25. Vinatieri just finished his 23rd. Check back with me in 2026.

He probably will play several more but keep in mind Vinatieri didn't need to play 20 himself. Stenerud and Andersen only made 1 Super Bowl appearance. Gostkowski has an insane 6 and will now be the longest partner of Brady which will count for a lot. Plus he has the all-pros and the 2nd highest playoff field goal percentage. If he did retire tomorrow he probably would make it at least as a senior selection.

You are WEIRDLY obsessed with putting random Pats into the HOF.

Tis the season. And the Pats have so few guys that are likely in. Plus I think it's funny from a career stand-point to see guys get lucky.

Is the HOF criteria simply to play for the Patriots?

Seems to be the case with these threads. Then again not many players can claim they have 2, 3, 4 SB rings. Not that that actually matters.

Hell No to answer the question but  since we have so many ridiculous HOF threads already ,I'll  put them in order too

Chance in Hell Mendoza Line!!

As it stands right now, there's no chance.

Vinatieri will make it because of the high profile kicks, and I think he would have even if his career had ended a little earlier. Gostkowski, despite being on a very successful playoff team, doesn't have those. No game winning kicks or kicks to take it into overtime. Really not much for completed field goals in the superbowl wins period, if we're being honest. So he doesn't have the Vinatieri style ticket.

Anderson is in there because of volume, pure and simple. He just lasted so long and kicked so many field goals. At the time of retirement, first in field goals, first in games played, second in extra points, first in points. Gostkowski is still years away from that kind of volume.

This will become worth talking about if/when Gostkowski is still kicking like 6 or 7 years from now.

This is a more reasonable question than Edelman or Slater at least - but still a pretty hard "no". There are two things counting against him here - 1 is that, compared to AV, he hasn't had any really big-time kicks. In a weird way his role is more prominent in losses.

 - BB forgoes a couple of long FG attempts, instead goes for it on 4th down in 07. Patriots lose. Obviously not SG's fault, but those are potential game-winning points he does not have.

 - Missed XP in 2015 AFCCG that turned out to be the difference in the game. If he'd made that then the game goes to OT and the Pats could have just played their 5th SB in a row.

 - Missed XP in SB51 that could have cost them the game, and made it so they needed two 2PT attempts to go to OT.

 - Missed a FG in SB 52 that may well have been the difference in the game in the end. Who knows.

 - Missed a FG in SB 53 that might have let the Rams right back into it.

 - Missed XP in Miami this season which allowed the miracle in miami to happen.

Weigh that against his famous good moments and what do you have? There was the 57 yard game winner against the Giants. There was forcing a recovering a fumble to win the game @Buffalo in 2009. I can't think of anything else. In fact I challenge any football fan - or even a Patriots fan - to name a "famous" Gostkowski kick.

I'm not down-playing SG's career. He's been a premier kicker for a long time, and we all know kickers should never be taken for granted, but when your misses are more famous/influential than your makes you aren't going into the hall.

The NFL kicking game has always had a rough sell.

John Madden added to the folklore as a broadcaster.

All kickers were position players until the 1960s. Paul Hornung and Jerry Kramer were the  kickers in GB. Both had issues with length and accuracy. Lombardi brought in Don Chandler from the NYG.

The 1965 division game in Lambeau against the Colts was 10-10 into OT. Decided by a Chandler FG. The refs were in the field and not on the goal line. Uprights were at a lower level. The kick was ruled good. Chandler knew it was high and wide. Colts owner spent $$ to find photo proof. Rozelle ordered uprights taller, banners attached, refs on goal line and back to front.

Packers played the Blanton Collier Browns and won.
