I'm not sure I totally understand this.  Committing $27M combined to your two starting safeties seems a tad heavy.  Last year, only 2 teams spent $20M+ on their safeties with Houston ($21M) and New England ($23M).

New England had a total cap hit of 19.485 million on their top three safeties last year.

According to Spotrac, they have $13.435M for McCourty, $4.75M for Harmon, and $3.575M for Patrick Chung.  That's a bit over $21M between the three of them.

That’s this year (and assuming McCourty won’t restructure). Last year, the total cap hit was 19.485.

It was a fun run while it lasted - Honey Badger brought in an intensity, held people accountable for their actions and mistakes. He'll be missed, but Justin Reid really picked up some good habits from Mathieu.

I'm thinking Houston will give Kareem Jackson a call, bring him in on the same deal that was offered to Mathieu ($9.5 AAV).

So much for that idea...

Yup, just saw that. Brian Gaine better have something up his sleeve to counter this, or we just created a 3rd hole to fill to go along with OL and CB.
