That Mahomes contract is still gonna severely limit them. Honestly 2019 is the Chiefs best shot and a decent chance in 2020. There’s no such thing as a 6-7 year window in todays NFL unless you’re New England where Brady takes a pay cut and Bill doesn’t pay performers. I agree Mahomes rookie contract gives us a chance to be aggressive to optimize that SB window (and sign studs like Anthony Hitchens), but it's not because Mahomes is going to get paid that suddenly we'll regress to 9-7 every year.
