To the exchange, and specifically #3, it's been my experience that when Matts says "don't protect me," it's usually reverse psychology and he's either 1) really trying to draw the attention of the bodyguard to protect him or 2) low-powered or already used his power and trying to draw the hit. That said, I think I remember him also doing this as scum to actually try and get the bodyguard to protect him so that none of the town are protected.
