I can understand both holdout. RB are not getting paid in their primetime and when it's time to get paid, team discount their contract or draft another RB.

It's not fair for them.

I understand your point, but at the same time if his RB are not happy with their contract, they just have to live with that or find another job!

Bell had $ 13 million a year in the open market ... Gordon has not the reputation and the production that Bell had, so Gordon could lose pretty big unless a team is willing to pay what Gordon wants, but that's is far to be guaranteed.

I wouldnt say that 5 year $35 mil is ridiculously underpaid.  Also, what if Zeke were a bust.  Cowboys would have been stuck with 4 years $25 mil all guaranteed. That said, they should just get rid of the franchise tag.

5 years 35M assumes he doesn't suffer a significant injury.  It makes perfect for him to hold now and get his guarantees while he is still healthy, and in his prime.

Had Bell hit the market in year 4 rather than year 7, his contract would have looked significantly different.  That's the entire point of why both players are holding out now, before they get that far into their careers.  A RB entering year 7 is always going to be in the back end of their career.

While players like Bell, Gordon and possibly even Zeke might end up falling on the proverbial sword trying to change the structure for RB's getting paid. Every single legit RB from this point forward should be thanking their lucky stars.

At some point in the very near future Teams won't be able to control the RB position for virtually a players whole career in thier prime at a discount if they so choose.

Change is coming, just not for those players most likely.

It's far worse for a player like Kamara who didn't get the RD1 contract.  Get's paid peanuts for his first 4 years, and can then be f-tagged twice on 1 year deals through year 6.  Assuming he gets through this season healthy, I would absolutely expect him to holdout for a new deal prior to next season.

If his RBs are not happy with the market right now, they have two choices..

Accept the current RB market or find another job, whether this is in a grocery store or other job.

...or they can holdout for a new contract that actually does represent the current RB market.

Yeah, but they will not get paid during this time, especially if their teams think they can survive without them

A player can not have more than what the open market offers to his players ... I know the franchise tag is not good for them, but at the same time, the CBA is the CBA .... It'll be at the NFLPA to negotiate a better deal the next time since the last CBA in 2011 for the players were awful that even the players of the Steelers at this time had voted no at the CBA...But the players of the other teams had not listened.

Yeah their alternative is to not get paid and strike. Not going to happen, careers are too short not enough players are willing to sacrifice a year of salary (their only year of salary for many) for the future so the owners have all of the leverage. Stop blaming the players for things they can't control. Melvin Gordon wasn't voting on this he was in high school. They have to fight individually for whatever they can, just the way it always will be unless the NFLPA all decide to join the XFL.

It's just that Gordon and other players need to live with the rules of the CBA.A player has the right to holdout, but I do not think it'll pay for Gordon.

Gordon will have 27 years old in next march(like Bell was in last march) and will he have more on the open market than what the Chargers have offered in this off season (10 millions per year)?...More likely that Gordon is losing money in this holdout, so not a smart holdout for him.
