I expected the Conklin deal to be so much worse.

He took a shorter deal. Trying to get more in a few years apparently.

If he would have went 6 years. That could have been more like $60 million guaranteed.

Haven't seen much said about him, but with not paying Conklin and likely keeping Henry on the tag if that doofus really wants 20 mil a year, is bringing Ryan back a more viable option now?

Eh I would say no. He’s a good player but we need to add more speed to the secondary. If he wants to take a discount then fine

Conklin's deal was solid to begin with, now looks like an absolute bargain.

You have to add on 2 more years to Conklin deal to compare. .

At Conklin's rate his deal would have been closer to 5-$70/75  million.

Looking at the team, cap wise... we're going to have to do something to create additional cap room.  Currently we sit with a little under 30M in cap space... and when consider $5M+ of that is currently pooled to our rookies, we have about 23M left to spend on FA.

We still have to look at RT, Edge, CB, backup RB, backup QB, and general depth.  Some of those will certainly be filled in the draft, and even if we were to shy away from any splash signings, that's quite a bit we need.

Say we sign a guy like Kelly at RT, a guy like Fackrell at Edge, and a mid tier slot guy... we're looking at around 15M right there... they can get creative and push that number down to 10M (very creative).  I don't know if they're going to want to go with a rookie QB, so we're looking at a vet, and those guys aren't vet min type guys... so another 4-55M for a decent one (and we have to considering how much we have tied in to RT, and when you look at his recent injury history).  That leaves very little wiggle room for additional depth, but getting guys in that tier of players (Kelly/Fackrell/etc), means you don't go into the draft with specific needs.  Those guys can start if needed, and we'll be ok if we have to bypass the position in the first couple of rounds.  And those type of players are also valuable as backup/rotational pieces, as we've seen.

Anyway, looking at the roster, you just don't see much flexibility.  Daquan maybe can be restructured... a cut is unlikely, but that would give us an additional 6M.  He was good, but with both Casey and Simmons looking healthy going into the season, it may be a luxury we can't afford (especially since he offers little to no value in the pass rush department).  The only other move that could give us some wiggle room is Butler... gives us an additional 7M.  But then you have to go out and sign a starting level CB, and you're going to have a hard time finding someone like that at that price.
