Sorry, but that’s horse****.  Maybe this is semantics here, and maybe I should have worded it better, but it has been since 2010 that we’ve kept an elite QB from doing whatever they wanted.  You’d think we would accidentally have a decent game against one.  After all, the Raiders gave Mahomes a bad game, and the Chargers gave him two bad games.

And that’s just quarterbacks.  When was the last time we held a top 5 scoring offense below, say, 28 points?

Matt Moore scored 24 against us.

How anybody can honestly suggest we would have beaten the Chiefs is just beyond me.

37 points to the Niners.

44 points to the Falcons.

26 points to Cardinals.

28 to Seahawks.

23 to Niners.

45 to Niners.

37 to Giants.

51 to Cardinals.

But yeah, we would have beaten the Chiefs.  It would have been a massacre.  We are not ready for that stage yet.  Next year we will be once we add some more up front and Savage enters his second year and we get something out of Gary, but we were not ready for that this year and we would have been shredded.

Never said Packers were ready for this year ... they surprised everybody.  Be happy and you don't have a clue how that game would have turned out.  One of my favorites:  If if's and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry Christmas.  Way to many ifs and buts that could have happened.  Just be happy and next year is the year!

Well said. The Packers had no business being near the SB. It would've been the most lopsided Super Bowl in history,  more lopsided than 94 SF vs SD. It would've been an total embarrassment for the franchise. Thank God SF saved us from that nightmare.

No, it would have been close since the Chiefs don't have the type of defense that turns Rodgers into a deer in the headlights.  He probably would have put up 24-28 points against the Chiefs.

From The Athletic

IF you want to emulate the 9ers, all you have to do is epically suck for 5 years in a row

"The 49ers accidentally posted the NFL’s second-worst record over a five-year period ending with the 2018 season. Their 22-55 record (.313) was better than only the Cleveland Browns’ 18-61-1 mark (.231) during that time. The unusually poor run of seasons armed San Francisco with unusually high draft choices to use on elite defensive linemen. Then, when Garoppolo was lost to a season-ending knee injury in 2018, the 49ers emerged with the 2nd pick in the 2019 draft, which allowed them to select game-wrecking defensive end Nick Bosa, but only because the team picking first, Arizona, sought a quarterback with the first overall pick.

Good luck putting together a team with first-round talents like Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner and Nick Bosa, to say nothing of 2017 third overall choice Solomon Thomas, the lone disappointment among those early selections."

Was it worth it for them?  They sucked badly for 5 years and their fans paid the price.  They got all those very high draft picks not only in the 1st round but every round.  That being said, with all that being accumulated they still couldn't win it all.  They probably have next year left for a decent chance to get back there but all those 1st round picks will want to get paid and there won't be enough $$ to go around.

SF made it farther than GB.  Is winning the title is the only measure of it being worth it?

Point being .. GB didn't suck the past 5 years going 45-25-1 while SF went 25-45.  One game further this year and NOT winning it all doesn't make up to their fans during that 5 time span.    Being successful is nice and it was a fantastic year for the Packers .. I'm very happy with it.  Just saying that for SF, the suffering and losing for 5 years and having the chance to win it all with that crop of draft choices ... winning it all was the only measure.

idk, losing in the NFC championship game so many times gets pretty old too. Especially 2014. I def think that team could've competed against New England. So I dont think Super Bowls are the only measure of success, but there is a legit argument for 30 years of HOF qb play and only two rings. I understand why the fanbase wants more... That being said I think Murphy and Gute gets that and are all in.

At the end of day you want to get immortalized as a SB champion instead of a SB loser. As great of a run SF had if you don't win the big one it's all for nought. No one remembers SB loser's.

Plenty of people remember super participants,  both winner and loser.
