Come on. They never connected with him and had no interest in playing for him. What other logical conclusion can we come to to explain why they parted ways? And why would this report come out literally the day after?
showtime
According to Yahoo Sports' Vincent Goodwill, Atkinson struggled to mesh with the team's two biggest offseason acquisitions, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Goodwill's sources said the coach "wasn't fond of coaching Durant and Irving based on what he saw this season and would rather something happen now than at the end of the season."

And if you read the headline it says “it is of the belief”. That’s not conclusive. It’s basically the opinion of somebody else. And from the other articles I read on this was a collective issue. Which includes DJ.

Is it the guy who’s improved his team every year he’s been there (which would indicate the players connect with and buy in to him)? Or is it the guy who’s literally had problems everywhere he’s gone?

It's obviously the teammates and coach that went 42-40 last year without him and then got worse with him that's the problem. However, he literally named like 75% of the team and intentionally left out the other 25%. Not sure how else you interpret that.
