He was misdiagnosed and you think he's the problem?

While there likely was a misdiagnosis, Trent is not blameless in this. The main thing is he wanted more money. He just used the medical stuff as a smokescreen so it made his holdout look more principled. Once the training staff and GM were fired, suddenly he wanted a new contract. That's what this has always been about.

The problem is that he got horrible advice as to how to get it and in the process may have done severe damage to his brand. He now has one season to repair it and maybe get that one last contract that he so desires.

Love to see every fanbase try to claim like 12 different players are AB 2.0 this year.

The dude had cancer for five and a half years and Washington misdiagnosed it. They got off light.

Question: why is Washington solely responsible for the diagnosis? If he was concerned, why didn't he seek a second opinion?

Wasn't he supposed to go for no less than a first?

Not happy about this as a Rams fan, but it's a win for both organizations at this point. The Niners get their left tackle, and the Redskins trade a guy who was letting the world know what a crap organization they are.

They’re not solely responsible. But they are responsible, and they failed their duty to the player completely and thoroughly.

Even if he didn’t go on his own, he absolutely has a right to be pissed off that a medical professional failed him for five and a half years. It’s one thing if they said “I don’t think it’s anything, but go see another doctor” and then never saw him again. But that isn’t the case at all. These doctors are in constant contact with the players, and nobody followed through to make sure that his health came first.

the return is...embarassing. BOB level.

Good for you 49ers.

That's not fair.  Williams didn't play last year, so he has missed 19 games in the past 2 seasons.  He refused to play for the Redskins, so they got what they could for him.  You have to also keep in mind that Williams trade will also come with a big extension for the 49ers or whoever ultimately ends up signing him, as he's a free agent at the end of this upcoming season.  Hopkins isn't a free agent until 2023.

Also, while Williams is a terrific player, he's not in his mid-20's like Hopkins, DeForest Buckner or Khalil Mack (when he was traded).  Williams will be 32 by the time this upcoming season starts.

It's also, for the time being, a one year rental by the 49ers.

And then when all of the people who were responsible for that were fired/replaced ... then suddenly it became about his contract.

Honestly, early on, I was backing Trent because I know exactly The Poop Wizard Brice Allen operates. However, after enough time, it became apparent it wasn't just a one way thing.

If they originally thought it was benign and told him to get a second opinion, why should we expect their opinion to change?
