If they originally thought it was benign and told him to get a second opinion, why should we expect their opinion to change?

Why did they not follow up with him to make sure he got it diagnosed by a specialist for five and a half years?

This is great for both teams.  49ers get an elite offensive lineman to help put them over the top and win a championship, and the Redskins get to move on from this drama and still acquire picks for the future.  Ultimately, the Redskins are in a great spot because they have what they believe to be a potential franchise QB, they just got an insanely talented defensive player in Chase Young and they have a new head coach who has been a winner in the past.  Both teams are trending upward.

Because the decision is up to him.  They can't force him to get it diagnosed by a specialist.

They can't force him, but their job as a team physician is to make sure that a player is in great health. Letting him pass physical after physical when there's maybe cancer on his head is a complete failure by the medical staff. Defending it is gross, my dude.

Whatever, man.  I'm never going to see it your way, you're never going to see it mine.  So let's just end it here.

why would they?

Furthermore, Washington clearly made some mistakes but Williams comes out just as bad. The whole "i can trust you aymore UNLESS you give me more more, than were good" thing was awful.

Why would a doctor whose sole responsibility is to make sure that NFL players are healthy follow up to make sure that player doesn't have cancer? Gee, I don't know.

so if he told them to go to a specialist, its on williams at that point. He either wants to go or he doesnt. Is he that lazy that he cant go see a specialist and has to be told 5 times? No, hes an adult, assuming he was told then go see one. if he doesnt, its on him. period.

It's a team doctor's responsibility to make sure the player is healthy. Not following up on that is failing. Period. Like this isn't even debatable.

its not debatable but bot for the reason you thing. IF he was told to see a specialist, its on Williams to see a specialist. Again, hes a grown up. I dont want to live in a world where people need to have their hand held to perform simple tasks that are suggested to them (thankfully its not a world we live in for the vast majority of people). Especially when it involves their own health. IF a doctor told him to see a specialist, thats really all he can do.  Im sorry you think a grown bleepity man needs to be told repeatedly to see a specialist, im sorry that person is so stupid/lazy that he wouldnt have the common sense to do so. However it is NOT on the team once hes told to go see one.

Yes, if Williams was told to go to a specialist, he should have seen one. But a team doctor is absolutely responsible for following up on things with players. And if for five and a half years, he passed his physicals without once a doctor saying "you need to get that checked out before we clear you" means they failed him as medical professionals. A doctor doesn't just get to pass off their responsibilities as a medical professional because they--one time in five years--said "it looks like nothing to me, but if you're concerned, go talk to someone else". They had a responsibility to do everything they reasonably could have regarding the growth at the very least every time he had a physical, and they didn't do it.

Trent's on the latter half of his career, so I think Washington actually won by getting two picks for him.

They arent premium picks.   49ers are a SB caliber team.  This keeps them strong at LT for longer and gives them time to find a long term replacement

It was a good deal for both sides, all things considered.
