We need more of it last year. Hopefully Bakers comp % is closer to 70 than 55 under steph.

We don’t need captain check down tho. Take the play when it’s there but don’t settle for the check down. on 3rd down you are playing into the defenses hands cause they want you throwing it yards behind the sticks.

the lack of check downs wasn’t the issue with the offense last year. Lack of legit scheme and comprehensive play calling.  Browns had one of the best running backs In the league but had a rushing attack that did nothing to help the offense. Freddie didn’t use schemes that utilize the run to open up the pass or to utilize PA in the right way. Browns had a great running back but a crap rushing attack. Now with Stef, his whole offense is built around that concept. He wants the pass plays to Look exactly Like the rushing plays so teams have no idea what is coming. Something Freddie greatly lacked, especially when a handful of defenders/DCs stated it was easy to predict the browns offense last year. It’s why Stef loves 12 grouping, cause you can disguise plays a lot better

You have to take what the defense gives you on every down.

That is the dumbest mentality.

If the defense is giving you something, it’s for a reason. It’s because it’s not something that is going to lead to great success. Yeah go ahead and run the 3yrd swing pass, 3yard flair, 5yr come out, 5yr our on 3rd and 9’or 3rd and long. Chances are you are not converting it and you are punting the ball.

That's absurd.

It assumes the defense never gives you opportunities for gash plays.

But they do.

You just have to be smart enough to recognize that.

And take advantage of the opportunity.

It's when they don't and you try to force what you want to do that often doesn't end well.

Hitting check downs when appropriate is the awesome, the best offenses force the defense to cover every blade of grass.

Swing patterns where chubb or hunt hit the ball at pace will be deadly, especially if defenses are anxious about the deep ball. The offense, needs to simple, and coherent. A high completion percentage can mean dink and dunk.

Every yard gained makes a difference.

I would rather take the 5 yards than try to force something that isn't there.

You know makes a bigger difference than yards gained, converting 3rd downs.

Gaining 5 yards doesn’t make a difference when the end result is a punt. If the defense is giving it up, it’s for good reason. Why not run the ball every time on 3rd and long? Defenses are giving you favorable match up

Dink and dunk offense is different than hitting checkdowns. Rich Gannon raiders offense was a deadly dink and dunk offense. Constantly hitting the checkdown isn’t good. Weeded was a captain check down. It did nothing for the offense.

yeah where there is nothing there, take the check down.when It’s 3rd and 8 or 3rd and 9, hitting the check down isn’t going to convert, might hit once and awhile but it shouldn’t a part of the game plan. Throw at the sticks. Don’t need to throw past them or before them. If a dude is open deep, you best take the shot tho.

dink and dunk isn’t Stef’s scheme. Cousin was around 8yrds aN attempt last year. Which was top10 and he was still flirting with 70%. Stef just schemes you easy passes because of play action and the way he disguises plays. Freddie sure as hell didn’t do those things last year.

We are a year away, but 2 college kids to keep an eye on: Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri (he’s small, but does everything right in coverage and against the run) and Israel Mukuamu, CB, South Carolina (6’4 giant that runs well, his teammate Jaycee Horn is better, but I like Mukuamus potential).

Not really.

It's taking what the defense is giving you.

so in '02, the opposing defenses just gave the Raiders the #1 passing offense in the league and Gannon passing title?  No why would a defense do that?

No, the Raiders and Gannon took it, unless you want to assume that somehow they/he became great.
