What Song Are You Listening To?

Keith Deen was one of the few thrash vocalists who could actually sing.

It's really hard to pinpoint what I look for in vocalists.  I can't pinpoint it exactly myself.

Have you listened to any He Is Legend?  Schuyler Croom is probably my favorite vocalist, so I don't really care whether or not a vocalist CAN sing, just how he sings.  I'd say none of my top 5-ish vocalists actually have a good singing voice.

This song is currently still my favorite song:

The way he changes his voice up in that whatever you'd call it at the start of this next song is why I love his voice so much:

Then he goes to the edge he has in this song:

Obviously the music is important to me, and I like thrash metal obviously, but vocals are what separate bands for me.

Listened to the song you suggested and his voice reminds me too much of what I think when I listen to Iron Maiden.

When Native Construct released their album, I felt like I had found my new favorite band:

It's also why I really like later Between the Buried and Me:

The way Thomas Giles goes from whatever you call his singing in the beginning then switching up to metal then back to that whatever you call it style is another example of what I look for in vocals.

I know this probably makes no sense with my recent obsession with Metallica.

well, megadeth has very distinctive vocals, so you would probabyl already know whether you have a chance at liking them

When I think of Megadeth, I think of Iron Maiden.  And vice versa.  The only Judas Priest songs I've ever liked have been Breaking the Law and You've Got Another Thing Coming.  I've been told before by someone who knows more about music than I do (which is literally everybody because I don't know literally a thing about music) that what I like is inflection in vocals.  That doesn't sound like it's true.

With Megadeth and Iron Maiden, it just seems like they're building up to flexing their high range and they never really do much else.  That was the perception I got when I tried them out.

If it tells you anything, Frantic off St. Anger is one of my favorite Metallica songs.

And I like Chinese Democracy more than any other Guns N' Roses album.

Joy Division is good but I feel like they were never as consistent as people made them out to be. Side 2 of Closer is far and away their best material IMO.

Incidentally, I got into that whole genre through this band's cover of Bauhaus' "Silent Hedges".
