It means he attended a lot of classes where the syllabus said "watch movie" a lot.

It could also mean that he's learned a lot about actual American history and not just the "tip of the iceberg" version we were taught in the public school system.

Agreed, here is what it says about American Studies on the Cal website.

"The goal of the Interdisciplinary American Studies program is to utilize the enormous and varied resources of the institution to teach students how to ask and answer scholarly questions, to formulate and undertake a focused interdisciplinary course of study, and to design and execute a substantial integrative research project. In doing this, we build upon several generations of scholars across disciplines who have advocated the critical study of race, class, gender, sexuality, and mass culture, as well as the examination of America as part of an increasingly globalized world."

A majority of these words are not that easy to even pronounce but maybe it is just a great write up and last time I checked Cal Berkley is not exactly some cake school with easy classes that is easy to get into.  Either way all that really matters is how smart he is on the field and apparently he is very smart from early reports.

He was a captain two years in a row 2019 and 2020 but that is not unique, usually Vikings got for captains it seems of late.  Also a little deceptive because depending on the program they might have a ton of captains, Gophers it seems with PJ have like 10 captains or so over the past few years so takes a little away from the term captain.

Honestly sounds like a bunch of gibberish that likely has no real life application outside of academia, but that’s probably the case for half of the majors available. No wonder the education system is broken.

love his potential at Safety. Not sure how quickly he will be able to pick it up, but he’s seems like a well respected leader.

Well, Maria Shriver was an American Studies major...it does have some application, however, it seems to often lead to either being a historian or a journalist (as was her case).

I agree completely, honestly they should not be allowed to have a major available unless 75% of most graduates in that major get a job dealing with the major 1-3 years out of college.  If not it should not be available or they should be perfectly clear the percentage of people that actually work and use this major outside of school.  Take trade schools for example, if one gets a degree from it in welding, guess what you will get hired instantly as a welder out of college probably over 75% of the time.

Either way Cal is an outstanding school I believe so that stands for something.  And again in terms of the NFL how football intelligence he is, that is what really matters.

What would all the social science majors do then?  😆

Sounds like it’s more of a stepping stone degree to post graduate work, likely law school.
