Played a little bit of it and honestly I don't like it that much. I know it's a beta, but man did it feel super unpolished and rushed.

So like every battlefield on release since bc2 haha. I've only played a short time but I be stopped caring about BF betas and early stage, you always have to wait it out before it gets to where it needs to be.

I'm so curious.  I totally burnt out on Battlefield, with what 1 and V were.  They made me hate the franchise.  But this one is really making me question if i should bother getting back into it.  I like the setting.  I like a lot of what i've seen.

I i also really hate a lot of what i've seen.  It seems like weird "high speed movement" is a thing now"  With ziplines everywhere and stuff.

It's so hard to separate the negativity between like...people who loved BF3/4, and are coming back to things.  Or people who loved BF1/V and are just upset that it's going back toward what it used to be.

And i missed the Beta (aka Demo), unfotunately.  So idk...it's so hard to read what people are saying about it.  Doesn't really answer my primary question.

I'm no Battlefield pro by any stretch of the imagination, however, I could also differentiate Battlefield and Call of Duty's style. Battlefield 2042 feels to me like a Call of Duty game with a bigger map and vehicles. That didn't use to be the case and its sad that EA wanted to go in that direction trying to imitate COD. It will be a buggy, rushed mess when it launches so unless you're just a diehard BF fan, I'd say wait for a sale.

I mean, every good Battlefield game has been a buggy rushed mess when it launches.  So i'm cool with that.  Though typically with DICE games, it's harder to get in if you don't play through the teething from the start to understand the changes.  So that gives me pause, in just waiting until it's "fixed".  Because i've had great times playing through a bugged as heck BF3 and 4 in the early days and through the lifespan and beyond.  I just absolutely cannot find my way to a fun time in either of the games since.  Despite plenty of trying.

Really just seems to come down to whether the return to that sort of "era" or "setting" has restored the balance and fun of the game to what it was.  Or if it's just the BF1 BFV trash in a different modern suit?  Because the divergence of the franchise from what i enjoyed about it, happened simultaneously with the "era" and the "game design" toward a more individualistic nonsense free for all.

Put a few hours into the Beta and I'm not sure if I like this or not. Movement is very stiff compared to V. The loadout system is odd you can basically equip any weapon and tool to any class. Way too many choppers and planes spawned at the same time.

The idea of "way too many choppers and planes" spawned at the same time, actually sounds kind of appealing to me.  With BF4 especially, that was how most servers ultimately seemed to kind of balance out.  With just instant spawn air vehicles so at worst, you could whittle an ace pilot on the other side down with sheer attrition.

But i also don't really like the idea of just pure chaos in the air like CoD Warzone of the skies or something, where everything is just going everywhere with no discernible patterns or flow.  Still very hung up on whether i should even buy this game or not.

Really cant decide if I love or hate this game. Main problem being there was like zero easing into it. I'm like 5 hours in and there has been no explanation about what each specialist class and how to use each gadget. It's alot of learn on the fly. Really threw us to the wolves especially with no single player

It’s not a great game. Portal mode is very cool and is why I’ll probably spend the majority of my time playing but the base game of 2042 sucks.

Call of Duty has been trying their hardest to give up the throne of top FPS for almost a decade now... it blows my mind that Battlefield (or anyone else) hasn't been able to put out a game that finally outsells them.

At this point I'm not really sure you can outsell them.

I mean I'd say Rainbow Six Siege has easily been the better FPS than any game COD has put out since 2015 (when Siege dropped), and it is still one of the most played games every single year (and will likely remain that way for a very long time unless Ubisoft gives up on it... which I'm not sure why they would) and has a major presence at esports events.  I'd say that has been the top FPS if you look at sustainability (which almost no recent COD has had) and reviews.  But I just don't think you can actually outsell COD.  Name value is too much and it is too easy to pick up and play for most people.

It is a shame though, feels like it has been forever since we got a new, original multiplayer FPS.  I loved Destiny, but they started relying too much on expansion packs that it made it hard to keep up.  I heard great things about Titanfall 2, but they screwed the pooch with the first one.

So a couple of early observations after about 8 hours of play:

- This game doesn't seem to track K/D or any stats. Either I am an idiot and cannot find them or they don't exist
- The in game scoreboard seems to only show your team, doesn't show points and is difficult to understand
- Cannot figure out how to switch squads. On PC you click escape a get a menu that says squads and you click that and it just shows you the squads that exist (this coule be another user error on my part)
- I consider myself a decent BF player and I seriously cannot hit anything in this game. From what I'm reading on Reddit seems like the bullet bloom is large for all guns. Even sniping at medium range, crosshair dead center on someones head seems like a 50/50 chance it hits
- Apparently the hovercrafts are ridiculously OP
- Each "specialist" has their own sort of perk/equipment. The sniper guy I use has a drone, I also tried the engineer guy and he has a turret. The drone is pretty fun. Find yourself a nice little nook to hide in, launch the drone, rack up XP spotting the enemies and it apparently has an EMP blast built into it but I cannot figure out how to use it (user error again)
- You can equip any weapon and equipment to any loudout. So if you want to be a "medic" and run around with a sniper rifle, ammo bag, and frag you can. Which to me seems totally dumb. Why even bother have classes then

Game def needs a few updates. It's not a total cluster f of a launch like BF4 was but it's frustrating to play right now.
