Fenton got traded to Falcons for a conditional 7th. Don’t need to release anyone yet. Got 1.4m in cap space. While he has done well in past years, he does not look remotely the same this year. Has been easily our worst performing corner in a room full of rookies. He looked so slow against Las Vegas. He's also a UFA at season's end and there is very little chance we would choose to retain him. So if he's about to be 5th on the depth chart this year, and see basically no playing time, and he's not going to stick around next year, may as well get what you can. It's like a few baseball deals moving a player who could not be re-signed for what seems like very little. As Chiefer pointed out, we cleared ca room. By doing it now we get something certain in return, clear PT for the rookies, and give a loyal player a chance to start for a decent defense.
