In this video Garofolo says Eberflus is a strong candidate for the Bears job

It’s definitely an assumption that Schoen and Daboll are a package deal. Just because Schoen and Daboll come from the same place now doesn’t mean they’re wrong, but it doesn’t mean that Schoen doesn’t maybe prefer someone else either.

For example, he was Dir. of Player Personnel in MIA in 2016 when Vance Joseph was their DC just before he got his Denver HC shot in 2017-18 and who is now getting HC interviews again (set up with MIA this week). The 2018 Bills had David Culley (who just got a SUPER raw deal in HOU) as QB coach. Schoen was with Leslie Frazier in BUF the past 4 years too.

The Schoen/Daboll connection is an easy one to make. But it’s not the only one.

Here's an interesting thought experiment to ponder.

People are mostly judging org. drafts when looking at potential GMs (when most of the candidates didn't even have final say on picks).

How would you rate Jerry Jones were he a candidate?   Dallas fans certainly don't seem to like him, especially at moment.

But his drafts have been pretty darn good of late and he made the actual picks.  If we are judging by draft picks as main criteria he has done a good job.

Seems his problem has been more culture, bad contracts and coaching.  And his own interference.

The Dak problem was a tough nut.  Do you pay him or don't you?   I guess it's like Murray, are you looking at early season Dak or late season Dak?

He can look awesome or very mediocre.

I mean Dallas is married to him now.

The #Bears are scheduling a second interview with #Colts DC Matt Eberflus next week, per source. So Eberflus is now a finalist for two jobs: Jacksonville and Chicago. His Indy defense has been top-10 in many categories the past four years.

This would work with Dodds.

I predicted Ed Dodds and Matt Eberflus early on in the process. Looks like the latter might be a hit!

Hearing very good things about Morocco Brown as well, he might be the Indy/GM connection here.

Eberflus is a good coach and is highly regarded around the league so it's good to hear we are giving him another look

He has also coached under Nick Saban, although it was way back

Lastly I read he has ties to a lot of different offensive coaches so I have confidence he'd be able to get the right OC in here

While it wouldn't necessarily look like a sexy set of hires I would be more than fine with a Ed Dodds/Morocco Brown & Matt Eberflus pairing

Who is on the Indy offensive staff that eberflus might pitch if he’s hired?

I'm not sure we take anyone off the Colts staff...he has a lot of links to the current/former coaches in LV...could go the college route with someone from Saban's tree...spent plenty of time in Dallas before Indy...

One thing is for sure...whoever he named as potential OCs clearly impressed the Jags enough to want him and us enough to schedule a 2nd interview without even having a GM in place...

On a side note the fact we did this for Eberflus but not Joe Schoen probably says he wasn't going to be a finalist here...would be interested to see how his and Daboll's interviews were...the fact Ed Dodds hasn't withdrawn his name from the search is also a good sign as he was pretty quick to do so after meeting with the Browns & Lions over the past few years...hopefully he is the guy to come in with Eberflus if he is the pick.

Mike Groh who is the WRs coach and used to have the same title with Bears under both Trestman's & John Fox's staffs

Another couple names to keep in mind are current pass game coordinator and tight ends coach for the LA Rams Wes Phillips and current Browns OL coach Bill Callahan who both overlapped with Eberflus in Dallas

Maybe Eberflus could convince Bill's son Brian Callahan of Bengals to take a real offensive coordinator job in Chicago vs staying put in Cincinnati where Zac Taylor calls the plays?
