biggie.
What are some players in league history that receive unfair scrutiny? The classic example is Joe Namath. He has some pretty ugly stats even for his era and is often called the most overrated player in league history, but in reality he was actually one of the most feared passers of his day despite playing on knees being held together by duct tape and glue. Another one for me is Terry Bradshaw. Like Namath, he had some ugly stats for his day, but he had inhuman arm strength and was a monster in the Super Bowl. NeptunePenguins
Yeah people tend to forget, especially in the 2nd half of his career, he was one of the top QBs in the sport, was even the MVP at one point. I think a lot of people just really remember him for his post football career of being a goof ball, and really underestimate just how good he was.

Namath was also a very aggressive passer that threw a lot more than his contemporaries. Edited February 4, 2022 by biggie.

He led the league in passing in 1972 but it was by 35 yards. He led the league in yards per game for only those 3 seasons as well. He was 20-17-3 in those 3 pass happy seasons. Not sure how much fear was generated on D. 67-69 Namath averaged 235.4 per game - 60 TDs to 72 picks 67-69 Lamonica averaged 238.4 per game - 89 TDs to 60 picks 66-68 Hadl averaged 230.6 per game - 74 TDs to 68 picks There were only 10 AFL teams. Namath as this unique feared mad bomber does not hold up to any scrutiny. It never has and never will. He had a big arm and a big mouth.

Actually, he is the exact same player he was in Cleveland--the only difference is when the Browns get in the RZ they run the ball with Chubb/Hunt and the Rams pass the ball in the RZ so he has more TDs. The best game he has had in 2 years for either team was 5 rec 81 yds and 1 TD and he averaged 3 catches for 39 yards in 9 games for the Rams 🤣 #odellsbackbaby Edited February 4, 2022 by AkronsWitness

Well in his first playoff game he had 6/69/0.....which is...not great especially with how much the Rams pass the ball. In his second game he put up 9/113/0 which was the most yards he has had in a game since 2018. So Ill give him that one, but that 1 game is not indicative of his regular impact on the Rams. Its more of a outlier than the average. He went from CLE who is 28th in the NFL in passing attempts per game, to the Rams who are 10th and his averages stayed the exact same. In conclusion....OBJ is the exact same WR he was in Cleveland that everybody complained about. The only difference is, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt arnt in LA taking his TDs in the Redzone. Better stats either way you put it. 🤷♂️ I also think he’ll have a good game against that sketchy Bengals secondary. And 6 in his partial season with the rams. That feels like thriving to me. His best game came last week against the niners.

Coaches, including Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick, all praise him as a passer. Was he the absolute best QB of his era? No. Does he deserve his Hall of Fame spot? Yes.
