Its different because Adams at 29 doesn't have time on his side.   He is very money focused more so than any other Packers player I can remember - I can't see him holding out as every week he sits out is money lost. He can't threaten to sit a year as next year he has hit the 30 mark which is a red flag for a skill based position that relies on his athleticism (maybe he doesn't have elite top end speed but he is quick and receiver is not a position where you want to be slow).

Packers probably considered letting him go for nothing so its not the end of the world at all if he retired or something like that - might actually work out better for us than signing him to a crazy deal.

Packers have all the leverage with this.  Its going to be annoying to have to have 20m frozen if he holds out but just annoying.

Not necessarily. Especially if Rodgers signing his new deal (which is where a lot of cap relief will come from) requires Adams being signed to a new deal.

Nah. It's Nijman's time.

Yea but has he ever played RT? I still think the RT of the future is Jenkins as long as Bak is around but Jenkins is going to miss at least 6 games to start the year. Kelly is a good insurance policy if you can sign him for around what you did last year.

The trade market for this kind of player is overrated.  If teams don't think he is worth his current contract then all you are buying is the rights to take on a bad contract. What is that worth ?  A 7th,  maybe a 6th at most if you are all-in and really really want the player.

Does imply they think Nijman can play RT or that Jenkins will be back for next season relatively early.  In either of these scenarios the cut would make sense.

how was/is that a bad contract?
