GB free agency 2022

I reckon we will only use FA to help boost our ST unit. I would be surprised if we attempted to sign anyone noteworthy on offence/defence when we still got a multitude of our own FA players to re-sign.

Looking at free agent players with 20+ kick returns last season, on the market are:

Ray-Ray McCoud, 25 years old. WR but with limited receiving experience. Is a KR & PR specialist. Stats look good but misleading. lots of reps but only managed 20+ yards 19 times with just one run of 40 yards which was his longest of the season. Other top returners have better stats than him on similar number of attempts. On punts similar story. Lots of reps but not much yardage. Fumbled the ball 3 times on punts last year. Still...he would be a big improvement to our ST.

Deonte Harris, 24 years old, KR and WR,  Downside he's only 5'6"

DeAndre Carter, 29 years old

Braxton Berrios, 26 years old. Was very productive KR last season - named All-Pro. Also did some PR too but importantly has shown to be a capable WR.

Byron Pringle, 28 years old. KR. Solid stats and is a capable WR too.

Isaiah McKenzie, 27 years old. Solid stats and is capable of ripping off a long run.

Jackeem Grant, 29 years old. only 5'7". Appears to record a PR or KR touchdown almost every season.

Chester Rodgers, 28 years old. Punt returner only.

Top KR Andre Roberts is available but he's 34 years old.

If we're looking to upgrade our kicker then players like Youngho Koo, Greg Zuerlein, Matt Gay, Dustin Hopkins are available. At punter the likes of Reily Dixon, Michael Palardy and of course Corey Bojorquez are available.

All the FA long snappers are over 30 years old. The youngest being Zach Triner from Tampa - a name who we all should recognise as he was with us in training camp in 2018 and just a couple of years later won the superbowl as Tampa's starting long snapper.

Having said all that if we were to dip into FA to upgrade a position group other than ST, I wonder if Gute will finally try to solve the WR#2 problem once and for all? Guys like JuJu, Chark, Gallup, Kirk are all up for grabs. I would be happy with any one of them to be honest. LaFleur's Notre Dame connection might make him want us to sign Will Fuller. If any one of them is available for less than MVS contract demands then that's MVS likely gone. Our TE group is weak too but I think Gute has learnt his lesson signing big name FA tight ends but i'm sure he won't ignore some interesting candidates such as OJ Howard.

If we don't re-sign Campbell I bet Corey Littleton will be on our radar. Barry coached him to be one of the best LB in the NFL. Still only 28 perhaps Barry can turn his career round.

I honestly don't think ST was players.

We messed up pretty much every part of special teams. Kicking, holding, field goal blocking, long snapping, holding on to punt returns, kick returning punt return blocking, coverage. I'm not buying that the entire bottom third of the roster was atrocious at Special Teams. Other teams churn the bottom of the roster without finding themselves in a scenario where everyone on the roster is incompetent at it.

A proper co-ordinator who knows what he is doing should get you to at least mediocre without the need for targeting it in free agency.

It most certainly was the player for a large part of it. They barely could field a punt clean, couldn’t snap or hold the ball. A lot of it is on the players .

Just seems to me to an incredible co-incidence to have every member of the ST unit to be a complete and utter turd on Special Teams. Kicking, Punting, Returning (even catching the punts), coverage, holding, snapping, even getting 11 men on the turf. Blocking for field goals. Basic decision making.

If its one area or maybe two areas then you its probably personnel.

You can't have that many turds in one Special Teams unit.  Just too much of a co-incidence - by the laws of averages you would think someone on the roster could play ST given other teams can churn the roster.  Can only assume the staff didn't know what they were doing or how to coach it or they weren't practicing it or something. Pretty much everyone who they chucked into Special Teams instantly became terrible players which says to me its not the players.

Okay......so that part of the coaching staff has been dispatched and upgraded. Look to the future.

I don’t think enough of you realize how hopeless this off-season is.

There won’t be one. Subtract the notable free agents, add 7 rookies.

That’s what you get.

And it’s going to be a team good enough to win one or two playoff games, not not more.

Saving this for later. Big news coming I’m sure.

The only big news coming is in a trade, and we don't do that sort of thing.

We literally cannot afford to make any moves.

It's... It's not a thing that's possible.

I mean, if you don't know much about the salary cap you can just say nothing.

There are some expected subtractions, yes, but the dollars they save can bring in 3 or 4 quality free agents pretty easily.

I understand. There definitely was coaching blunders ( like the formations ) but you can’t blame the coaches for guys not being able to catch a punt or a snap .

First, Lol at Adams saying he'll sit out instead of playing on the tag. That's not happening.

Second, if not for Rodgers, the smart play would still be to trade Adams. Get a good pick or two then sign Robinson and another mid-range WR, probably for the total price (or less) of the Adams contract. It'll never happen because of 12, but we'd actually be a better team for it.
