onejayhawk
Skyy Moore signs, officially wrapping the paperwork on the draft class. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/chiefs_sign_second_round_wr_skyy_moore_wrap_up_draft_class/s1_17039_37579030 Ten draft picks, Justyn Ross, Mike Rose, and Jerrion Ealy make a group of 13 players. Normally, that would be far too many, but the team allowed an unusual number of contracts expire, creating job openings, particularly on special teams. It will be interesting to see how many stick and how many who don't then clear waivers. Minicamp next week.
onejayhawk
This is another profile of an UDFA--QB Dustin Crum. Hopefully, he never starts for the Chiefs, but he has a legitimate shot at becoming Mahomes' primary backup. https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-rookie-qb-dustin-crum-kent-state-stats-highlights-outlook/https://www.nfl.com/prospects/dustin-crum/32004352-5515-3424-b47e-7b5e4fc29d9e

onejayhawk
Profiles of UDFA will come in as a filler until camp starts. onejayhawk
For those who like PFF, here is an article covering most of the draft picks. The shear number of players rated 70 or higher indicates this may be an outstanding draft. Thatt said, PFF has always loved this draft.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/6/21/23176391/chiefs-draft-projecting-the-performance-of-the-teams-top-5-rookies-in-2022
onejayhawk
This is another in depth article on a lesser known draft pick. In this case, he's Nazeeh Johnson. His job competition is mostly from a career ST player, Deon Bush. My feeling is that Johnson was drafted to replace Dorian O'Daniel, ie basically take over leadership of ST. Bryan Cook is also in this conversation, basically replacing Dan Sorensen.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/6/24/23180241/2022-seventh-round-pick-nazeeh-johnson-provides-chiefs-with-uber-athletic-safety-slot-option
onejayhawk
This is about Bryan Cook. let me say up front that this guy is hot and I don't mean his looks. Cook has taken to the defense very quickly and also shows leadership qualities. It will have to wait til camp to be sure, but Cook has all the tools of a superior core ST player. In other words, Dan Sorensen but bigger, faster, better in coverage, and hits harder. He's going to be good.https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/6/29/23188591/chiefs-rookie-bryan-cook-cincinnati-coach-colin-hitschler

Should allow Reid or Thornhill to roam like HB used to do
onejayhawk
Cook is looking like the most pro-ready of the rookies. We'll see if that continues with pads on next month. Here's a bit on Skyy Moore. He's got solid role models. Can he play like they did?https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2022/06/30/kansas-city-chiefs-skyy-moore-models-game-after-stefon-diggs-antonio-brown-davante-adams/

onejayhawk
This article poses an interesting what if. What if the Chiefs had selected Jermaine Johnson and Kyler Gordon instead of McDuffie and Karlaftis? What if they had stayed at #50 and taken George Pickens? My choice would have been JJ and Daxton Hill. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/three_non_chiefs_rookies_to_watch_in_2022/s1_16631_37684911

But they’ll always be compared to each other. I personally thought they were trading up for JJJ when they took McDuffie but that’s the only change I’d have made. JJJ/Elam vs McDuffie/GK
onejayhawk
Here is a different take. What are the Rookie of the Year odds for our draft picks? Not great this year. On offense, just Skyy Moore who is tied for 5th by the bookmakers. On defense, we have a couple of longer shots--Karlaftis and Chenal. Everyone else is a prayer.https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/lists/kansas-city-chiefs-2022-offensive-defensive-rookie-of-the-year-odds/?itm_source=parsely-api

Maybe they got Dee Ford vibes.
