so within each division, there is a full 17 game season to set the 1-4 seeding within the division for the "divisional championship".

that is the NCAA basketball set up of a regular season then having a conference tourney to determine the automatic bid to the NCAA tourney

certainly devalues the regular season some

Doesn't devalue the regular season at all.

Breathtaking analysis

More breathtaking than the idea 🤷. Your idea makes no sense. The games you're adding look like money grabs. You're diluting the game with this idea. There are really no positives at all and I'm not sure what you're even seeing in this idea as to how it could be a good idea in really any way. Nobody cares to watch a mini division playoff for every division, even though at that point there may be 12-4, 11-5, 7-9, 4-12 set of win-loss records.

TL;DR here's your analysis: no

How about just make it 18 games and give everyone 2 bye weeks. Or is that not galaxy brain enough

How about 17 weeks, 16 games, 1 bye week, and a 12 team playoff format. The top two 2 teams of each conference get a bye in the playoffs while #3 seed plays #6 in the wild card and ......oh wait.
