Amari Rodgers. Cut or kept?

  1. 1. Amari Rodgers. Cut or kept?

    • Cut the kid. He's flashed nothing.
    • Keep him. He's shown enough.
    • Feed him some of @Norm's Mom's meatloaf and he will be just fine.

We need to bring this thread back.

0 offensive snaps for Rodgers this past week. He's pretty clearly the 8th WR on one of the worst WR corps in the NFL... Lafleur's comments regarding 0 snaps was basically that he was just going to have to take advantage of whatever opportunities he gets, and Aaron Rodgers comments went somewhat viral on twitter today regarding Amari:

Tough love?  Seems like an uphill battle for the guy. Hope he is type to dig deep when challenged but he won’t be safe next year if he can’t play O. Devin Hester he is not.

LOL!

There was no smirk.  Nothing.

Dude's telling the truth.  He's a returner, that is all Rodgers knows.

We can all read between the lines on that one.  Kid isn't ready for the offense, yet.

Then we can all spitball about what is going wrong with Amari.  And really, we know what is wrong.  He's not a good athlete, so ability isn't going to get him on the field.  Brains can.  And apparently that isn't there yet either.

We've got to quit picking football dumb and/or unathletic people in the 3rd round.  Amari can't figure it out .. Jace Sternberger never figured it out.  Sean Rhyan is on the struggle bus.  Oren Burks went busto.  Josiah Deguara rarely makes his present felt.

If Amari is going to see the field on offense it will be at the expense of Cobb coming off the field and what do you think Aaron's take would be on that?

Amari Rodgers vs Randall Cobb (ras.football)

Need to start picking from the abundance of smart, athletic players in the 3rd round.

Exactly. I said this same thing in the off season, they've literally went after both kinds, right? The less athletic but "football player" kind. And the more athletic clay. It's the third damn round. What ya want, kickers?

Part of it is fans are a little delusional about expectations from the 3rd round in the draft and what the overall strike rate is. It has all evened out over time for the Packers. In the past 10 years, keep in mind they didn't have a 3rd in 2012 or 2013, the picks have been Richard Rodgers, Khyri Thornton, Ty Montgomery, Kyler Fackrell, Montravious Adams, Oren Burks, Jace Sternberger, Josiah Deguara, Amari Rodgers, Sean Rhyan. Of those ten, eight are still on rosters and Sternberger is still bouncing on and off PS's and still has a slight chance of sticking around somewhere.

TT's 3rd round picks before that were Abdul Hodges, Jason Spitz, James Jones, Aaron Rouse, Jermicheal Finley, Morgan Burnett, Alex Green.

It all evens out in time and I don't think it is as bad as some fans ***** about.

If you have a chance to upgrade from Mason Crosby you have to select him in the 3rd round.

"Still on rosters" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for that group listed here. That's a pretty sad group overall, especially during Gute's tenure. Frankly, it's probably not that different for a lot of teams and shows how over-valued draft picks can be. If anything, this is direct evidence of why more teams should be open to dealing a 3rd now and then to get a better player, even on a rental deal, like we've all debated on here for the last 2-3 years at the trade deadline.

Imagine where this team would be if we didn't have Deguara, Amari and Sean Rhyan on the team lol....the exact same team we have with them. Same goes for just about every other guy in that group outside of Burnett, Jones and Finley. I'll also throw DickRod some love because he caught the Motown Miracle, but that's about it.
