What about Isaiah McGuire? He's got the athletic traits we'd like from an edge guy and we at least interviewed him at the combine.

You're probably talking about a late day three pick there. I was more referring to who I think would be available at the end of day 2 when we pick in round 3.

Hodges Tomlinson is just so crazy small. He can cover, but hard to get past the size sometimes. But I think at pick 100, taking a guy who can play and check an athletic profile even if he can't hit all the size benchmarks is fine

Don't know anything about Andre Jones, but clearly edge seems to be a priority

If he is physical enough, he can play inside corner.  K'won Williams was a small player, but he was a strong tackler, so it didn't matter much at NB.  I really like Oliver too, I think he will step right in and look like he has been here forever.  His run support ability is important as well.

If I had our D line coach, I would load that unit up with as many players as possible, then let the cream rise to the top.  Especially for such a high value position.  If these guys can pull it off, it's better to draft 4 DE's than to sign one free agent like Omenihu or Ekubam.  Bosa is going to wreck the budget for that position.  Throw in Hargraves, and we need to save money on the D-line.

Isaiah McGuire a late day 3 pick? I don't think that's true. He's 6'4 with nearly 334 inch arms and a 4.76 40. His athletic traits alone should be pretty appealing as an edge guy in the top 100. He seems solid enough to me.

Late day three was probably a tad hyperbolic. I'd take him round 5, but probably not before that. He's strong, but tight.  Linear and I think he lacks some get off. He's a decent athlete, but not twitchy.  I'm probably not rushing him wide when he's lined up over or outside of tackle (he's probably not rushing the arc around tackl). He needs a lot of coaching with technique and just having a plan and recognizing a play.

He's fine, he's just limited. If someone really bought into the size, I wouldn't be shocked if he went earlier, but he's not someone I'm overly infatuated with. I like him less than I liked Kingsley Enagbare last year, and he went mid round 5. But some guys I didn't like as much went higher. Just takes one team to really like him.

If we traded Lance for an early second round pick, who do you guys think we would target?

I kind of feel like OT would be a big time priority, but they are likely to be gone by that point. I feel like Branch would be a big win, but unlikely to be there as well. Edge maybe, but that can dry up pretty quickly as well.

I traded Lance for pick 33 in another draft we are having because i wanted to change it up (Lance + 99 for Mills + 33). I don't think that the 49ers would make that sort of trade, but again, just wanted to have some fun with it so I made the deal.

Darnell Wright maybe? Dawand Jones? I don't like Wright as a zone blocking tackle, but there aren't a lot of run blocking specialists that are looking to be taken towards that range unless someone falls in love with Freeland's workout numbers. The only other positions that they have valued that high in the draft have been receiver and defensive line. Maybe a tight end. Maybe Anudike Uzomah. I honestly think there's some similar value from the late first to the mid third where you are just picking your poisons. I'd much rather take a medium trade up from 99 to like 80 or 85 to secure a starter quality player.

When considering what we lost to get Lance, no one will like that trade at all. However, that's done already and we have to get past that. I do like Mills, so getting the top 2nd round pick, freeing up cap space by shipping Lance off to the Texans and giving up 99? I think I could find that interesting, actually. Would the 9ers do it? I don't know...doubt it, actually.

The tight end is an interesting call. There's probably reasonable value there to be had from a prospect standpoint, but jumping up to 33 for a tight end does feel a little weird.

I definitely think that tackle represents the best opportunity to increase the ceiling on the team because that person could come in and start and be better than McKivitz right away. If you take a TE at 33 or 99, that dude is still a rotational TE2. Pass rusher is rotational as well, but you're probably getting a higher quality player...but I still really hate that edge class. Like do I want to take Keion White there? Bresee worth a gamble there? But still rotational.

I think if someone offered something like 33 or 35 straight up for lance, they would listen potentially, but I don't think Lance gets traded until next year. I basically just did this to change up the mock a little and run out different scenarios from the last one where I didn't make any moves or trades.

At this point what we paid to get him is just a sunk cost so it would suck to basically just end up with an early second, but if he's not your guy, he's not your guy.

About 6 selections before I make my pick at 33. Would you make a small trade up to get any of the following:

Edge - Lukas Van Ness

People are super split on him it feels like. I think late first is a decent enough spot for him, but there are some like DJ who are super bullish on him and have him like top 15.

Anton Harrison / Blake Freeland - The best two tackles available probably. I don't think Freeland is worth that kind of pick, Harris on is the type that if he's there at 33 I'd maybe pick, but I don't feel I'd want to go get him. But again, this position is dropping fast.

Dalton Kincaid / Darnell Washington - The latter seems like a guy that Shanny would be in to. I don't love the height, humorously enough.

EDGE - Keion White / Zach Harrison / Derick Hall. I like White quite a bit.

Other guys still out there:

Addison, Zay Flowers, Bresee, Kancey (as much as i love the freakish athleticism, the short arms kill me).

Anyone that any of you guys have way higher than anyone else?

Anton Harrison is who I'd try to get. I'm not seeing the value otherwise. Maybe Addison, though I am not a fan of his lack of physicality for us specifically. Ditto Zay Flowers. I like Kincaid. Not a fan of Washington - I'll be in on stiffer, linear TEs as soon as more of them actually do well at the NFL level again. The Edges seem meh value for me. There's just a host of guys that I don't quite see as starters that are mocked anywhere from there to the 4th round. I love Kancey for one gap teams; though the arms are legit scary, he's such a demon and gets under your pads that I could see it still working. Bresee is not interesting to me. He got a lot of single team looks and really wasn't impressive against them for me for the hype.
