Sure, let's compare our GM's draft picks to other top teams in the league in a vacuum. While ignoring the other ways that those said rivals GM's work the Salary Cap, & FA and Trade markets that Green Bay is allergic to 4 out of every 5 years.

The conversation was about draft hit rate, not utilization of all tools.

But also, Gute has used FA all five seasons to variable success:

-Wilkerson, Graham, Williams, Lewis in '18
-Amos, Smith x 2, Turner in '19 (unsurprisingly, he had the most cap room this year)
-Wagner and Kirksey in '20
-Campbell and Kelly in '21 (plus Douglas and Mercilus during the season)

Rudderless, direction-less franchise right now. Aaron Rodgers is too valuable to sell for draft picks, draft picks are too valuable to sell to help Aaron Rodgers.

They put all their eggs in the 38 years old Rodgers basket. I think they had their direction picked. It was just the wrong one.

I'm a big Gute supporter. He completely turned the team around after taking over. Has hit on big money FA signings, has hit on bargain FA signings and has a solid draft record.

With that being said, I really don't understand the strategy moving forward. We should of done 2 things:

1. If you're gonna sign an older QB to a 50m+/yr extension, then we need to go all in. If reports are true that we offered Adams more then Vegas and he declined, we should have used the money we would of given him and traded a 5th for Amari. Our biggest hole would have been filled and we would have still had money left over to sign Campbell and Douglas. We'd also have more flexibility in the draft.

2. Traded Adams and Rodgers for multiple 1st rounds picks and other draft capital. We would've been loaded for the future and primed for a quick rebuild like the Eagles did. We would have a season to find out if Love is the QB of the future or not. If he isn't, then we have a high draft pick to use on a strong QB class and salary cap to go all in while our QB is on a rookie contract.

Instead, now we're stuck in a weird middle ground where our cap is hamstrung by our aging QB and we're not serious contenders because we have the worst set of weapons in the league. Gute's inability to make the tough decision when the writing was on the wall is what separates good GMs from great GMs

This. Just do one or the other. Don't try to find the best of both worlds when that really isn't feasible.

I hope the Bakh situation is a fair warning to our FO in the future of giving out big 3rd contracts. It's better to get rid of a player a year early then a year late. BB was great at that and one of the main reason's the Patriots dynasty lasted as long as it did. Imagine those 2020 and 2021 teams with 20m+ of player contributing and along with draft capital from either a trade or 3rd round comp
