What would you say the biggest difference in your team is from when we played you last year?

The "culture."  The team has improved in its pass rush with Zadarius Smith, but otherwise, it's pretty much exactly the same team, so it's the atmosphere and confidence.  Even Cooper Rush couldn't shake their confidence now.  They still have to do better at containing a guy like Pollard, but they are better at their run defense than they were a year ago too (although it's still middle of the pack).

We're the Rodney Dangerfields of the NFL.

The Vikings just beat one of the elite teams in the NFL, and yet, as the late Rodney Dangerfield was known to say, they get no respect. Minnesota has proven it won't go down easily, regardless of opponent, and the Cowboys might be reeling a bit after their most recent loss.

Dallas’ defense gets after opposing quarterbacks, leading the NFL in sacks with 35 through 10 weeks. The Cowboys also rank sixth or better in scoring defense, yards allowed per play and passing yards allowed per game. That sets up for a rough day for Kirk Cousins.

But Minnesota has a rushing attack that is poised to capitalize on Dallas' struggles against the ground game (29th-ranked run defense). Dalvin Cook has been, well, cooking in 2022, and he's typically quite effective against the Cowboys, who have allowed Cook to gain 140.3 scrimmage yards per game in their three previous meetings. It hasn't always produced wins (Minnesota went 1-2 in those three games), but it's difficult to ignore Dallas' recent woes against the run in this matchup.

The Cowboys might get after Cousins, but Cook should thrive, which might eventually take some pressure off Cousins. I haven’t even mentioned the impact Justin Jefferson can make, even after his spectacular performance against Buffalo last week.

Minnesota has a better chance to win than the oddsmakers seem to believe right now.

Coaching and energy are probably the biggest things that stand out. O’Connell is more aggressive in his approach than Zimmer was, and the team had a very “office space” type of energy. They showed up and didn’t their job, but hard to say they were enjoying what they were doing. This team is having fun.

Wouldn't you attribute some of the defensive struggles to the changeover from a 4-3 to a 3-4?  Has anyone other than Smith really had much experience in a 3-4 prior to this season?  Hunter seems to have gotten better as he's gotten more experience, don't know about the other defenders.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has missed the past two games with a hyperextended right knee. He was limited Wednesday.

The Cowboys play the Vikings on Sunday and the Giants on Thanksgiving Day, but Mike McCarthy said Wednesday the quick turnaround between games will not factor into the decision about whether to play Elliott this week.

McCarthy: “If he’s ready to play this week, we’re going to play him."

Justin Jefferson is listed as a limited participant in practice due to a toe injury. It’s the first time that Jefferson has appeared on the team’s injury report this season. The wideout’s status in practice on Thursday and Friday will provide more information about whether this is just maintenance or if there’s any reason to worry about his status for this Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.

Left tackle Christian Darrisaw (concussion), cornerback Akayleb Evans (concussion), and defensive end Dalvin Tomlinson (calf) were all out of practice. Linebacker Za'Darius Smith (knee) joined Jefferson as a limited participant.

Jayron Kearse: “He’s the best receiver [Jefferson] in the league. The tape doesn’t lie. You can say whatever you want to say. You turn on the tape, you see it. He gets open against everybody. He plays well against every opponent. Every top corner you put in front of him, he’s going out and he’s making his plays. . . . The tape doesn’t lie. Definitely one of the best catches in this league’s history. It’s just some of the things that he does, and it’s further proof of the point of him being the best receiver doing it right now.”

Jefferson has 1,060 yards through nine games this season, putting him on pace for 2,003 yards. The NFL record for receiving yards in a season is 1,964 set by Calvin Johnson in 2012.

I have a feeling we'll see Diggs on Jefferson a good amount this week. Kirk will have to be careful with the ball, since Diggs gambles and ballhawks, but that could lead to some big plays from JJ. The run game should be the focus, but if we get our play action going early, there's potential for some very long gainers against their secondary.

Well, it's not like it was a good defense last year.  It's actually much better than last year even if it's still just average at best.

how does Dallas do defending against underneath routes? could Hockenson play a significant role?
