They'd get past 14-2 Atlanta, and then 15-1 Minnesota on the road? With the 14-2 Broncos awaiting them? Interesting timeline.

They beat the 13-3 49ers who lost by 2 to the Falcons who beat the Vikings to go to the super bowl.

This was the Packers coming off two straight super bowls with a young, three time MVP Quarterback.

What if Brandon Bostic could recover Seattle's onside kick attempt. Had he done that we are in the superbowl and win it all IMO. Thanks for reminding me, jerks.

Recently it would be what if we pair Tee Higgins/Pittman with Tae Adams in 2020 instead of drafting a backup QB after being a game away from the superbowl the year before.

Here's a doozy for Niners Nation: what if SF beat Baltimore in the SB?

That result of that game impacts not just the NFL, but college football and even American politics.

Winning that game more than likely means Jim Harbaugh wins his power struggle with Trent Baalke and gets extended.

With his biggest advocate staying in town for the long haul, Kaepernick never gets benched thus likely never getting into far left politics.

With Kaepernick focusing more on football, he never starts the kneeling movement. Without the NFL giving it mainstream national exposure, the woke movement never becomes a thing.

With the SF job closed, Kyle Shanahan is hired by Cleveland and they are the ones who trade for Jimmy Garappolo.

Harbaugh staying in the NFL means he never returns to Michigan, thus they'd still be getting curbstomped by Ohio State to this day.

Joe Montana instead of Doug Cosby?

(This is true.  They debated it in the war room and decided to wait until the 4th......)

The Montana "what if" also goes for Bear and Packer fans.

On the morning of the 1979 draft, Bill Tobin (from "Who the heck is Mel Kiper?" fame) was a scout for the Bears, and he told his wife that they were going to draft Montana in Round 3. However, when they got to Round 3, GM Jim Finks changed his mind. He said that they had three QB's (Vince Evans was looked at as the future, but I don't know why he was sticking up for gingerbreads like Avellini and Phipps), and they didn't need Montana. He decided to draft a backup for Walter (RB Willie McClendon out of Georgia, who didn't last).

As for the Packers, they had a scout named Red Cochrane who had a man crush on Montana. He scouted him at ND all four years, and he said that all he did was win. However, Bart Starr (who was a terrible HC) ignored him, and drafted two guys out of Maryland (Steve Atkins and Charles Johnson) that did nothing. I think that Cochrane threw a fit when he found out that they had passed on Joe (GB ignored their scouts a lot back then).

Also, here's one for the Chiefs:

In 1987, the Chiefs and Jets finished last in the AFC West and East. So, the schedule formula required that they played each other twice in 1988.

In both of those games, the Jets had double-digit leads going into the fourth quarter, and the Chiefs came back. They won one game, and the other finished in a tie.

That was costly, though. KC cost themselves the #1 pick, and a chance at Troy Aikman.

Imagine those 90's teams with Aikman at QB instead of Krieg, Bono, and Grbac (and an aging Montana).

This "what if" also affects the Steelers.

If the Jets win those games, they make the playoffs in 88, and probably beat Cleveland in the WC game before losing at Cincinnati.

With another playoff appearance, I don't see Joe Walton being fired in 1989 despite a poor season. He gets another chance there, and maybe Steeler OC Tom Moore doesn't get fired since Joe isn't available.

With the continuity, I see the Steelers doing better the next few years, and maybe Noll stays on a little longer. Maybe Cowher ends up somewhere else.

1. What if Miami chose Drew Brees in FA over trading for Culpepper in 2006?

2. What if Miami drafted Herbert over Tua?

3. What if Jimmy Johnson had been able to pull off the trade to draft Peyton Manning.

Kaepernick was into far-left politics going back to his days at Nevada. He probably still kneels but stays in the league longer because the 49ers were a dumpster fire after Harbaugh left. Kaep might even still be in the league today if Harbaugh doesn't leave.

Where did you hear that? Even if he was, he was much more tight lipped about it pre-2016. Plus with a notorious no-nonsense hardass like Harbaugh still around I doubt he'd start kneeling.

It's on record that Nevada professors noted Kaepernick's willingness and enthusiasm to learn about leftist ideology and African history. Harbaugh also participated in anti-police brutality protests after George Floyd's death. Harbaugh probably doesn't let Kap become more of an activist than a football player, but Kap probably still does some form of protest.

Imagine what happens to the Cowboys without Troy?

In the 1989 Supplemental Draft, I heard that they were looking at both Timm Rosenbach and Steve Walsh. Walsh was Jimmy's QB at Miami. He won a lot of games, but didn't have a big arm. Rosenbach was more gifted, and I wonder if they would have drafted him instead of Walsh if they couldn't take Aikman (they also probably take Tony Mandarich with their first-round pick).
