That being said, for as insufferable as the Snyder saga has been, circa 20 years actually seems like a lucky break. I honestly thought he'd have an iron fist grip on the franchise until he was six feet under which could have been another 30 plus years. It’s not just about him being an embarrassment or forcing bad personnel decisions or picking a god awful name. It’s not even just about him being an absolutely awful person. There was just an overwhelming hopelessness attached to the team with him involved (seemingly) into perpetuity. Win a game? Who cares. Chasing a playoff spot? Who cares. Draft a QB, hire a new coach, bring a new GM? Who cares. None of it mattered, because it can’t matter when Dan Snyder is still there. It inevitably won’t matter. That’s the lesson that’s been pounded into our brains and hearts for a quarter century, every single one of us (except Ace, god love him). Whatever it is, it will fail. And somehow this time will be even more painful and embarrassing than the last failure. There’s no guarantee that we’ll win with someone else. But for the first time in 25 years, there’s no longer a guarantee that we won’t win.
