Browns moving from Cleveland

Columbus isn't a bad place to live, especially in the suburbs. The main problems in the city are the schools and crime. There is considerable political opposition to fixing either issue. The mayor has been at war with the police union for a few years but the city is flush enough to buy out the old guard in the FOP (they take the buyouts and go work elsewhere). But Central Ohio as a region is thriving and the city government is pro-development so stuff gets built, even downtown. The burbs have higher crime rates since 2020 but not to the extent of the city. There's a housing shortage but the cost of living is pretty reasonable, especially compared to Chicago or coastal cities.

He is but he'll get re-elected this year with 90+% of the vote. You'd think a guy who a company pled guilty to bribing wouldn't have a career but he has a firm hand on the local party in Franklin county. When Ginther's bagman got out of prison after taking the fall, Ginther put him on the Convention Center commission. He shockingly took bribes there too and was convicted in US court. The 6th circuit just overturned the no-prison sentence for that case and it looks like he'll be going to prison for at least a few years.

I mean the Columbus suburbs are really nice. Almost all of them so you really cant pick a bad place to live and the school systems are all top shelf, the city school systems however are obviously lower quality but I think that can be said about any US city. Its still the best of the best places to be in Ohio (and probably other surrounding states) in terms of being a young professional and/or raising a family and it is the fastest growing city in the Midwest for the past decade for a reason. Its essentially siphoning population from smaller cities in the state and is the only city in the state that is expanding because of it.

There is a reason the Haslems want to tap into the Columbus market so badly. Its because there is a loooot of money and 'fence sitter fans' here that they are trying to capture. It might suck for fans who live in Cleveland for a few years, but from a brand/business perspective it makes absolute sense. Its the 14th largest city in the US and doesnt have a professional football team presence. Lots of fan dollars to earn.

I haven't been able to follow this well. What's the elevator version? Will they be the Columbus Browns? Or still Cleveland, just closer to Columbus?

The Columbus Browns of Cleveland. Sort of like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

They would be the Cleveland Browns who are temporarily playing in Ohio States stadium while their new stadium is being built.

Rolls right off the tongue

Im not complaining lol The Haslems have been talking about wanting to do training camp in Columbus for like 4 years and now there are rumors they will be temporarily in Columbus for the stadium. They want this market bad and the writing has been on the wall for years that the Haslems want to make Columbus the Browns second home.

We could also then rightfully give Cincinnati to Kentucky and the rest of Appalachia 😁

Yeah…that. The OP and subsequent posts had me thinking it was a permanent move and I was wondering why it wasn’t drawing more attention.

There have been reports from Cleveland that the Browns aren't leaving the waterfront, that whatever stadium changes are needed will be done incrementally so games can still be played there. That seems ambitious to me with capacity considerably reduced for construction. But the Haslams don't have a deal in Columbus yet so maybe they are just saying they'll stay home.

NYC has horrific housing politics that make it super expensive to live in plus the subway stations smell bad, but this idea that it's a Mad Maxian hellscape is pure culture war BS. It's one of the only large American cities that can even compete with the proper, better planned cities abroad that aren't tainted by freeways and hysterical NIMBYs.
