For  half year rental. a 4th at the very best . Not sure I'd take that .

Bradley Chubb is probably a bit better than Sweat, but not that much. And he brought back a 1st rounder plus more for a half-year rental (Miami immediately signed him to a 5/$110M extension).

I think a 4th is probably setting the bar much too low. I’d rather keep them both and take a stab at getting them signed for the long-term than deal them away for a 4th rounder (likely a later one from a pretty good team at that).

For all we know they are trying to negotiate with them.

True. But I was going by what @naptownskinsfan posted which was

According to Ben Standig, they have not engaged the representatives for either Young or Sweat, who are represented by the same agency.

That kinda tells me that they aren't even talking to them. I may be reading it wrong though. Maybe it was just talking about the trade talk?

I'll wait to see what Keim says. I haven't been as impressed with Standig lately and he's kind of a jerk to everyone in the comment section under his Athletic articles. Its kinda weird actually, he and Craig Hoffman are both pricks lol. Doesn't seem like a great way to get people to want to watch or read your work.

Seems to happen a lot with really intelligent guys sadly. You can tell both are really intelligent but, they have a little bit of that “I’m Smarter than you arrogance” that rubs most people the wrong way. Grant Paulsen gives off the same vibe IMO.

They're both great at your jobs but they're a bit arrogant where guys like Keim & JP Finlayisn't, they're pretty humble and will admit to Mistakes or whatever.

He's gone. It's all good. Again, getting the pick we got this year is better than hoping for a comp pick next year and the headache that him being here was.

Sure, it’s great. We got an extremely late 3rd round compensation pick for our best pass rusher who happens to be 24-years old because our front office was too stupid to pick up his 5th year option.

I won’t get into the headache part. I don’t agree with it but there’s not point in rehashing it.

Dude, you know it's not "great" compensation for a former #2 overall pick, but he also isn't and hasn't ever been our best pass rusher.

Chase is going to want to be paid close to, if not more, what Tez got and that was more than either deserved.

By every pass rushing metric he was better than Montez this season. I think the fact that we don’t have an actual GM in place that will make these decisions for the teams future is why we ended up getting taken to the cleaners by the Niners yet again.

It pisses me off. We now have a gaping hole at DE that we have to use draft resources to fix. Keeping Chase and tagging him was the right move. Doing what they did is what bad franchises do and it’s what good franchises capitalize off of.

By every pass metric before this season Montez has had a better career. Notice that the Bears gave up more capital and paid him immediately while the 49ers are taking the wait and see approach. Whether you like it or not, Montez has been, and currently is, the better professional football player than Chase Young.

It pisses me off that we wasted a 2nd overall pick on a player that wasn't a QBotF. Chase was a bust for us. He finished his career for us with 14 sacks in 3.5 years. He has not ever played a full season here. His play was frequently marred with poor effort and bad run defense. He is essentially a glorified pass-rush specialist. Would you call that a successful tenure?

Guess what, neither player, Chase or Montez, ever dominated from the edge. They are both middle of the road players and "replacing" their production won't be as hard to replace as some believe.

I wish both players the best in their futures, but the best decision for this teams future was made. It's not what anyone wanted, but it was the correct call.

No one was paying more than that. We asked for a 2nd and a 5th. And from what I can see 3 teams were interested but no one was willing to make the trade until we dropped our price for Chase.

The main reason? His knee. His ability (or inability) to come back from the injury scared a bunch of teams away from trading what we wanted for him. So pick #100 is about the going rate for a guy who has a serious knee injury history, and who has played only one full season for us and has only 14 sacks in 3.5 years (admittedly part of the reason was the injury but that gets to the point to why teams were scared).

And given that he was going to be a FA this offseason, it was better to get the guaranteed 3rd rounder in 2024 than to let him walk and get a compensatory 3rd in 2025 (worth about as much as a 2024 4th rounder) that was gonna get canceled out by pretty much any move we make in FA this offseason.

Also, there's this on his hotel bill too. Watch it (start at 2:27 mark) and tell me that this is the generational talent we needed to lock up for $20M+ AAV. Tell me this is a player who is actually trying to do his job. I can count maybe 1 or 2 plays (maybe 3) where he actually gave a crap.

That’s why not giving Chase the 5th year option was stupid, stupid STUPID!

The 5th year option episode give Chase more time to prove himself to us to get a 2nd contract or more time for him to prove himself to other teams so we could’ve gotten more compensation back in a trade next October.

Worst sports franchise in sports since 1994 continues to shoot itself in the foot!
