What movies that were critically/commercially panned are you an apologist for?

Last Action Hero is the best action satire ever made. The marketing for it was TERRIBLE and audiences were too stupid for it at the time. Thankfully, it’s getting the recognition it deserves. Just ten years ago, its IMDB rating was 5.7. It’s not sitting at 6.5, and that’s only going to get higher.

I really need to watch this again as an adult.

For me two historical epics come to mind immediately: Troy & Kingdom of Heaven.

Kingdom of Heavens directors cut also shores up the majority of holes the original cut making it IMO one of the better historical epics. I would place the directors cut closer to Gladiator than a failed movie.  Its a shame the studio botched the editing process so much in the original release. It's not exactly historically accurate but it does show IMO one of the better pictures of the crusades and one of the best adaptations of Saladin. Edward Norton as King Baldwin IV is one of my favorite movie kings. The only one I enjoyed more was Alfred the Great played by David Dawson.

Troy is just so much dumb fun. Brad Pitt just being a chad is pretty fun to watch.

Agree on both of those especially Kingdom of Heaven.  The Director’s Cut is by far and away better, almost a completely different movie.  Norton does a great job too.

Thinking on a couple others since I just saw an article on how Netflix turned ratings around for Assassins Creed, that’s another of mine.  But that also got me thinking about the Doom movie.  The biggest complaint is that it wasn’t Doom, but more like Resident Evil in space.  Essentially if you take Doom out of the title and crafted some generic sci-fi title, you would have a really good B-action flick.

Watched this like last year for the first time in 20 odd years and thought it was a lot of fun. Remember it bombing when it came out and when I watched it recently just thought it was ahead of it's time
