Draft Discussion 2.0

I've really honed in on trying to figure out who really are the supreme talents in this draft.

Comparing the supreme talent this year to last year....

Last year, there were 12 supreme talents worthy of top 10 selections. They were as follows:

1. Myles Garrett, DE

2. Jamal Adams, SS

3. Malik Hooker, FS

4. Jonathan Allen, DL

5. Reuben Foster, LB

6. Leonard Fournette, RB

7. Solomon Thomas, DE

8. Mike Williams, WR

9. OJ Howard, TE

10. Marshon Lattimore, CB

11. Mitch Trubisky, QB

12. Corey Davis, WR

That class was deep...this year imo the supreme talent is not as deep and only 6 players can really be classified as elite/impact talent with a handful of players (3) being close to that type of talent.

1. Bradlye Chubb, DE (Doesn't get enough love...he's not Myles Garrett but he has it all and is an immediate 8 to 12 sack a year player...the hustle on him is unparalleled and if we had a QB he'd be my number 1 player. I don't care if we have Ogbah...he's a good player but more of a great run specialist than a great/impact pass rush DE yet and like the Jaguars have shown you need at least 3 impact pass rushers (Yannick, Flowers, Calais Campbell) to become a top defense.

2. Sam Darnold, QB

3. Josh Rosen, QB

4. Saquon Barkley, RB

5. Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB/S

6. Quenton Nelson, OG

--------------------------

Honorable Mention:

7. Calvin Ridley, WR

8. Derwin James, LB/SS

9. Roquan Smith, LB

Therefore, the COLTS HAVE TO BEAT THE TEXANS... and we have to walk away w/ our future QB1 and 1 of Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, or Saquon Barkley.

As Ogbah and our pass rush were literally nothing and garbage when Myles was out, we can't overlook an impact player at the DE position although We desperately need CB and S help as well as an impact RB1.

My dream draft is Sam Darnold at 1 and Bradley Chubb at 4.

AJ Mccaron starts, Darnold waits in the wings.

Garrett and Chubb start as elite rush ends, with Ogbah as the run stopping specialist w/ inside and outside pass rush package versatility.

There are great RBs to be had round 2 and on. I'm hoping for Rashaad Penny in the 3rd.

There are safeties and CBs that will be available in the 2nd round that will have starter upside.

After Bradley Chubb there are no other real DE1 pro-bowl caliber DEs (Harold LAndry is good, and The Clemson boys are meh).

But...as long as we walk away with a QB and 1 of Barkley, Chubb, or Fitzpatrick...all will be well.

@Mind Character I’m in agreement with our first two picks. Franchise QB (hopefully) and either Fitzpatrick or Chubb. I love Barkley too. Ideally, I’d like to see us be fortunate enough to grab a stud RB in the 2nd, but if he ends up being Zeke, no regrets I guess. Most prefer Minkah over anyone, but I think I would actually go Chubb at this point. Yes, I know we have Ogbah, but it’s hard to say no to a talent like Chubb. That’s two guys who should command attention from o-lines in pass pro. I’ll take my chances finding a really good FS through a different avenue over a pro bowl level pass rusher. We aren’t in position as a franchise to pass on our BPA past QB, whomever that might be.

Is there a corner or someone who may slip into the teens that would be worth targeting if there is a trade down? What if we get 1 and 4, we select Darnold at 1 and Rosen is there at four and we get insane offers from teams in the teens?  Is Ward that good that he should/could be a target? Anyone else?

I would think the Giants would be mighty tempted to pick up Rosen with their pick.

I rather get Barkley. He isn’t Zeke but he is better than Fournette IMO and look at the impact he had for the jags this year.

Chubb would be extremely excting to have.  Having a pair of book ends like that would be something like the rams use to have in wistrom and little. Two amazing DEs that caused havoc. Having a 3 man rotation of Garrett Chubb and Ogbah would be nice with nassib coming in every once in awhile or even seeing sometime at the 3T.

I would like to see the offense get infused with the young talent for once.

The uncertainty at #1 changes my feelings towards the top of the draft.

If Darnold stays in school and Rosen really demands a trade, what about trading the number one overall to the Giants. Move down one spot. Let's say we get their first, their second, their third and their first next year. We're giving up our right to a franchise QB... they better pay for it

Now we have #2, #4, #33, #34, #35, #55ish, #65, #66 in the first three rounds alone. Plus the Giants 2019 1st next year.

It'll sting to not get Darnold or Rosen, but this is where it possibly gets really interesting.

Could we then trade down from #2?! For another haul. I don't know who the target would be for a team at #2 overall, but maybe we can drop down a few more spots and pick up even more picks and possibly another 2019 first.

Then take whoever your two or three favourite prospects available are.

Maybe it's a combination of Saquon Barkley, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Baker Mayfield. Or maybe it's a combination of Bradley Chubb, Saquon Barkley and Lamar Jackson. You get the point. Then we've still got a whole bunch of high second and third round picks to load up even more talent.

And don't forget the three 2019 1st rounders!

Basically, what I'm saying is, f it if Darnold and Rosen don't want to be a Brown. We can still take advantage of that in our own way and get crazy picks to use on other good players and QBs.

When I thought about this, what's annoying is that I believe Sashi Brown, for all his good and bad, would have done something like this and at least achieved full value from trades.

@Mind Character I completely agree with you.  I have those same 3 players as my top 3 to draft.  I LOVE the idea of sitting at 4 where we can get the QB of our choice, and then have one of Chubb, Fitzpatrick, or Barkley sitting there for us at 4 for the taking.  Granted I think my order, based on our needs is probably Fitzpatrick, Barkley and then Chubb, but I certianly understand why you like Chubb so much.  I think he would be great but need for another offensive play maker is much more which is why I have Barkley ahead of him, and since we have Duke and RB's aren't terribly hard to find later that could be a good second to him, with our need for a true center fielder, that's why I have Minkah above both of them.  Still I'm not sure anyone on this board would complain if we walked away with the QBOTF and one of those 3 moving forward!

On a separate but similar note, if we can get the QBOTF in this draft with the #1 pick, and have the 4th pick to draft one of those 3 players, I don't think anyone can complain about passing on Watson.  Hell the reason we are in this position (not the first pick and being terrible but having the 4th because of the trade) is because we were willing to trade away the picks for Watson and Wentz.  I really hope this works out for us so I can stop hearing that bleeping narrative....

I get that, but they still have Eli and were a bottom feeding team.  Does the new coach and GM come in and say, yes Eli is our guy for at least a couple years.  We need to invest the #2 pick on either OL or another need to help them get back to where they were just a year or two ago?  I could see them skipping QB for a bigger need, maybe.

After 13-14 years of Eli, I can't see them looking a gift horse in the mouth and passing on a guy like Rosen.

I like the idea of drafting Chubb

gives us a good rotation of Garrett/Ogbah/Chubb.........also gives us the option of using all 3 on the field on obvious passing downs by sliding Ogbah inside

And none of the 3 of them are small players.

You see some pass rushers who are the 250-260lb tweeners.

With those three you would have 6'-4" 273lbs, 6'-4" 272lbs, and 6'-4" 275.

While (at least Myles and Emmanuel) still athletics as hell

Based on film I would say Chubb is very athletic as well

Are we talking Sub 4.65 40, +35" Vertical, +120 Inch Broad type of athletic?

I know Ogbah and Garrett are insane out of this world type athletes, I assumed Chubb was more technique and power?

I haven't seen a ton of him so I don't know though. I'm just going off the little I've seen and what I've read.

I’d draft Chubb too. Outside of Myles and Ogbah we have zero depth. Nassib and Orchard have proven they can’t get the job done.

I think Nassib is fine but the Ogbah injury just hurt the team bigger. I like nassib coming in to give guys rest but he isn’t a starter
