Why? Bills fans seem to rate him.

"He turned Poyer and Hyde into All Pros when he was the safety coach. Switched to LB and turned Milano into an All Pro and Bernard and Dodson into stars. Hope the Bills can keep him."

I played high school football against him and there was no one that annoyed me more.

Have we heard yet if Carolina is letting him go or not?

Carolina interviewed Evero for the HC job and chose not to hire him. One would think Carolina would not force Evero to work under the head coach they chose.

Evero had HC interviews with Falcons (Filled), Carolina (Filled), Seattle (Vacant)

If he fails with Seattle HC opening and Carolina is open to letting him go then he would probably be the instant favourite for the Packers DC job. Hopefully Seattle will make their decision quickly.

The downside is, if we do hire him he will probably leave to be a head coach in just a year.

It’s really seeming like MLF is swinging for the fences with someone who hasn’t been a DC . I’m a tad worried, but go for it

@thrILL! Gonna be disappointed because even a guy like Leonhard with 5 yrs as a successful DC isn't strong enough!

Who's pulling the trigger on this decision?

MLF alone...or is Gute involved in any way?

I would guess it's MLFs call, I'd probably run it by Gute just to make sure there's no red flags he knows of.

Personally, if we’re not gonna go for a veteran DC (Wink is the first name that comes to mind for that), I’d go for Chris Hewitt. The Ravens have a great defensive tree and I’ve long been envious for defenders who can actually tackle in the open field and not give up so many YAC. And not get burned on checkdowns so much, that’s been an issue for quite some time.

Screw it, let's get Hewitt. Then you can say you knew it.

Why is having DC experience important? We already tried it with Pettine and Barry.

90% (made up number) of new DC hires are someone who have never been coordinator before. Its perfectly normal. Everyone needs to start somewhere prior to becoming a coordinator.

I read a message on another forum that we're in superbowl window and there is "no time to learn on the job". LaFleur must've thought that too when we had Rodgers and so we hired Barry, a guy with prior coordinating experience.

In doing so he missed out on a talented coordinator in Evero who ended up proving himself just a year later.

Evero just proved you shouldn't fear inexperience as long they're made of the right stuff.

DC is not some super strategic/playcalling position like OC is.

I think equally important for the role is a good vision of where the league's offenses are and being a good developer of defensive players.  Knowing how to motivate and build skills is just as important as strategy and X's and O's.
