Just how bad was the 2022 QB Class?

Keep in mind that, while it is a super bad class, the selections being so late overall reflects that. The first one didn't go until 20, and we are talking about 5th round picks as the "top drafted QBs" that year.

2021 is much, much worse when you factor in draft position. The only good one is Trevor Lawrence, and his career stats over his first 3 years are almost identical to Daniel Jones. Then you've got Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, and Mac Jones all in the top 15. Just awful.

Bad bad.

Based on where those QB were drafted, its not really surprising.   NFL teams weren't high on the QB prospects to start with.

Now 2021 is different with QB at 1, 2, 3, 11. 15 ( i think) and Lance at 3 was a huge trade up, Fields at 11 another trade up.

NFL teams at least recognized it, only Pickett went in the first two rounds. Hit rate on QB's between round 3-7 is terrible every year.

Statistically there have been more starting QBs from those rounds since 2000 than the 1st round.

There are also just more of them drafted, period.  Which makes the "hit rate" a lot lower.  Because you've got a dump truck full of total nothings and straight up washed out of the league altogether guys.

Yeah but if you know where to look you can find a franchise QB.

It also helps if your coaching staff isn't the equivalent of the bears.

Everyone thinks they know "where to look" to find a Franchise QB in rounds 3-7.  😆

But if it were that evident where to look, these guys would be going in Round1, not 3-7.  The vast overwhelming majority of Round 3-7 QBs are either journeyman backups at best, or just straight up nothing, or complete washouts.

I think Mac Jones, had he gone at 3, would have been SOOOOO much better than he was in New England. Just a fumble by all parties involved there.

'21 and '22 are probably the worst back-to-back years of QB's ever in the NFL. Has there been a worse 2-year stretch of QB's taken in the first couple of rounds?

06 - 07. First two rounds of each:

  • Vince Young
  • Matt Leinart
  • Jay Cutler
  • Kellen Clemens
  • Tavaris Jackson
  • Jamarcus
  • Brady Quinn
  • Kevin Kolb
  • John Beck
  • Drew Stanton

So basically Lawrence V Cutler lol

And at this point, would anyone take Lawrence over prime Jay Cutler? I think it's probably comparable?

Lawrence hasn't hit his prime yet.
