wcblack34
It’s fine if he’s out for the year. He was going to sit anyway. It suck’s he won’t get the practice reps, but he has a full year with absolutely no pressure to absorb the offense and learn how to be a pro. This alters the plan slightly, but I don’t think it is a significant worry.

JDBrocks
best case scenario, IMO, given the type of injury.

The fans also can't get in Darnolds head screaming for JJ every time he makes a mistake
skywindO2
I guess this means we'll keep both Mullens and Hall?

If we go on the assumption that he was going to sit this year anyways, the only reps that he’s going to miss are the ones from the remainder of training camp and preseason. Which sucks, but there’s more practice days behind them than in front of them at this point. There aren’t a ton of actual physical reps he’ll miss during the season, as the backup QB doesn’t get a lot of physical reps in practice. The rules just don’t allow for it. But he’ll still be in the meetings and going over the game plans, etc and he’ll get the mental reps. He should easily be ready for the offseason workouts, with the team and on his own, where he’ll continue to work on his footwork and other areas that he’s been working on.

vikesfan89
I do think McCarthy would have made some starts this year so it sucks that he'll lose that opportunity but I don't think it'll hurt him much long term
PrplChilPill
Awful. He's lost a year, as have the Vikings. Nothing good about this at all. Guess they should sign darnold to an extension now.
vike daddy
Chad Greenway blew up his knee worse than this in his first rookie preseason game and had a fine career.
