Malfatron
1 hour ago, MacReady said: Red Light Green Light Everyone knows this game, but you don’t know how it works in Survivor. In Survivor, Jeff is 100 paces away from everyone. If Jeff turns around and sees you moving, you’re out. If you reach Jeff, you’re safe. You have to decide how many paces you want to take and risk getting spotted by Jeff. Jeff decides when he turns around based on paces taken. This number has been predetermined before any submissions have been sent in. In order to ensure a lack of bias, Jeff has sent these predetermined numbers of paces to before posting this. Jeff will turn around as many times as it takes. After the weekend, I will impose a 24 hour clock for each turn. We will do this one round at a time so players can see exactly how far ahead or how far behind they are from other players. Example: Bill chooses 20 paces. Fred chooses 37 paces. Randolph chooses 17 paces. Alfonso picks 57 paces. Jeff decided to turn at 29 paces. Fred and Alfonso are OUT of the challenge. Bill is 3 steps ahead of Randolph. Rules: 1. If a player is eliminated and other players advance, they are out for good. 2. If all players are eliminated at the end of one round, we redo that round. 3. No working together/colluding on the number of paces. 4. Do not try to find out who I sent the numbers to nor ask them for the numbers if you find out. 5. Don’t do anything that will start a controversy. 6. I will allow public submissions. Personally, I don't see the point to that because that's just giving your opponents an unfair advantage, but considering the element of the unknown here I don't really see it as anything unfair. If you are going to do a public submission, I need you to say, "Final Answer" and tag me with your number of paces. 1. @Daboyle 2. @Malfatron 3. @theuntouchable 4. @adamq 5. @TOUCAN 6. @skywindO2 7. @TedLavie 8. @FinneasGage 9. @bcb1213 10. @ET80 11. @Scoundrel To win the "Red Light Green Light" challenge in Survivor, you need a strategy that balances risk and safety, considering Jeff's predetermined turning points. Here's a step-by-step approach to maximize your chances of winning: 1. **Understand the Turning Points Distribution**: Since you don't know Jeff's predetermined turning points, you must assume they are randomly distributed across the range of possible paces (1 to 100). This assumption helps you decide your paces with some probabilistic reasoning. 2. **Initial Conservative Approach**: Start with a conservative pace count to gather information about the game without getting eliminated. For instance, choose a relatively low number, like 15-20 paces. This allows you to stay in the game and see how others fare. 3. **Observation and Adaptation**: After the first round, observe the outcomes: - If Jeff turned around early (say, at 10-20 paces), adjust your strategy to take fewer steps in subsequent rounds. - If Jeff turned around later (say, at 30-40 paces or more), you can afford to take more steps in the next rounds. 4. **Incremental Increase**: Gradually increase your paces based on observed turning points. If Jeff's turning points seem to cluster around a certain range, adjust your pace to just below that range. For example, if he often turns around at 25-35 paces, aim for around 20-25 paces. 5. **Balance Risk and Reward**: Consider the current positions of other players. If you're ahead, you might want to stay conservative to maintain your lead. If you're behind, you might need to take more risks to catch up. 6. **Final Rounds**: In the final stages, with fewer players, you might need to take more calculated risks. If you can gauge the turning pattern more accurately, adjust your paces to maximize your chances of reaching Jeff first. ### Example Strategy: 1. **Round 1**: Choose 15 paces (safe start). 2. **Round 2**: Based on Jeff's first turn, adjust: - If Jeff turned at 20 paces: choose 10-15 paces. - If Jeff turned at 40 paces: choose 20-25 paces. 3. **Round 3 Onwards**: Continue adjusting: - Monitor others' progress. - Aim for incremental increases or decreases based on Jeff's patterns and other players' paces. ### Considerations: - **Game Dynamics**: Since Jeff's turning points are predetermined, they might follow a pattern or be random. Use each round to deduce possible patterns. - **Risk Tolerance**: Balance between staying in the game and making significant progress. By following this adaptive strategy, you maximize your chances of progressing safely through each round and ultimately reaching Jeff first. MacReady
OMG, how hard is it to follow instructions? Like if you could do one of the two things I asked I’d be fine with it. PM, tag me or final answer counts. I need to know you’re serious. @Scoundrel, I am counting 19 unless you change it by the time everyone submits. @adamq, I am counting 19 unless you change it by the time everyone submits. @ET80, I am counting 72 unless you change it by the time everyone submits. @TOUCAN, I am counting 28 unless you change it by the time everyone submits. @Malfatron is locked in at 32.
