Minnesota Vikings Rookie CB Khyree Jackson Passes Away at the Age of 24

Awful to hear that, he could have been a starter this season and was poised to become a long time pro with a potentially solid career.  The kid had some super high level ability for a corner his size, went through a lot to get drafted and get to the NFL.  Sad to see it end for such a promising talent.

Minnesota Vikings’ rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was among three people killed in a car crash early Saturday morning in Maryland, police said. He was 24.

The crash occurred just before 3:15 a.m. in Prince George’s County and involved a total of three vehicles, state police said in a news release.

Jackson was in the front passenger seat of a maroon Dodge Charger and was traveling with Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, 24.

Hazel, the driver, and Jackson died at the scene, police said. Lytton was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the driver of a silver Infiniti, identified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4 and attempted to change lanes while "driving at a high rate of speed." The Infiniti struck the Charger and then hit a Chevrolet Impala, the news release states.

The force of the crash caused the Charger to travel off the road and hit multiple tree stumps before coming to a stop.

Clingman and two other passengers in the Infiniti were not injured, police said. The driver of the Impala was also uninjured and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Investigators said they believe alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the crash and that charges are pending.

we don't know if non-Viking fans know Jackson's recent backstory, but it makes his death all that much more tragic.

he wasn't a top student, struggled with depression following his father's early death, went the JUCO route with football, gave it up, was working in a supermarket deli slopping cold cuts, friends and family talked him into following his dream, played two years at Alabama, was dismissed from the team there (probably for academics again), played one strong year at Oregon, was getting his life together and made goals toward supporting his extended family.

drafted in the 4th round, signed to a near $5 mil contract, doing well in OTA's, expected to make the team and possibly start.

had everything going for him.
