It's a shrewd move for him. The Raiders are a great fit for his offense, the team already has playoff-caliber talent, and the fan-base still loves him.

And him having total personnel control will wreck at least two of those things within half the term of the contract... and then they'll still be stuck with him because he'll own a portion of the team and be rather difficult to remove from his seat of power.

Maybe, maybe not.

Even if those were his "demands," it's a negotiation.

A negotiation with a man who already let enough leak to the press (before he'd fired his existing coach) that he was prepared to put a monster deal on the table to bring Gruden back.  Mark's not his dad.  The guy just plain doesn't seem to have the same business sense and savvy that Al did.

1. Gruden has turned himself into the ultimate crony. That's a guy who has never really built a team, and when he had the chance failed miserably. He's built himself up and kept himself relevant through a media role where he blows smoke up everyeone's ***. It's pathetic.

He built a very good Raiders squad.

For the record, Gruden brought in like 25 new guys on our Super Bowl winning team. Most of them on offense. So it's not like he truly "won with Dungy's team." He definitely reaped the benefits of one of the greatest defenses of all time. But we also outscored Oakland's offense 27-14* in the Super Bowl.

*That Jerry Rice TD call was wrong. That wasn't a catch.

Why?  He has utterly no ties to Lazor whatsoever.  Gruden's bit was always up-and-comer's and guys who he was familiar with via the Ray Rhodes staffs of the mid/late 90's.

He spoke highly about him during the Bengals MNF game.

2. Pagano is getting the rawest deal of anyone fired. Name me a season where he underachieved based on the talent on his team.

Completley agree on Pagano but I can't fault Gruden for waiting until an ideal situation presents itself. I think  Oakland has a decent roster and John will do well. In todays age coaches are hired just to get fired. So if you can go to an ideal situation do it.

But, it does feel like a spectacle.

So another team will want Del Rio still even with the disappointing year?

There are a few of us that see him as our next DC. The Koetter/Del Rio connection is there and Mike Smith (hopefully) can't survive another year of horrible defensive player.

Was it his choice to have two scrubs for QBs? If not then Elway is a damn coward for blaming him.

Very true statement. He already tried scape-goating Mike McCoy, too. Denver D was totally screwed over by field position this year. Not saying Vance is/will be a stud HC, but he deserves to stay
