In retrospect, much of what I didn’t like about the team under his tenure was probably more to do with Rodgers than McCarthy, and most of my issues with him were shallow or mistaken. I’d feel bad for having held him in lesser regard than I should have, but he’s a bajillionaire and I check the couch cushions for change. Everybody makes fun of that pad level comment but: 1. It's the perfect answer and fundamentally translates to "What the ****? You think I'm going to tell you that we lost because our Safety bit overly hard on a Cover-2 smoke coverage leading to a deep TD and the rest of the time we spent too much time with light boxes getting slashed apart by outside zones because we have limited talent at 5T? Of course not, STFU" 2. It's also totally true. You can survive your DBs sucking if your OL and DL play with elite pad level and are pushing guys around. This last week they struggled again with only 17 points yet won because their defense held the Ravens to 10 on the road.
