Source: Vikings and OT Christian Darrisaw have agreed on a four-year deal worth up to $113 million in new money, including $77 million guaranteed. Darrisaw had two years left on his rookie contract. Deal includes $43.7 million guaranteed at signing. Deal negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Yeah unless there is some math I am not grasping, Darrisaw is the highest paid OL in the NFL, Sewell was before now that contracts beat Sewell's so the bar is set pretty high.  But like I said he is easily top 5 LTs in the NFL but to me he will never be better than Sewell or Wirfs for that matter and some others.  But great to be able to lock up a elite WR and LT instead of over pay for a QB like Kirk Cousins.

If all you’re going by is the raw number of the extension, then yes, Darrisaw is the highest paid OT. But, one, we don’t know the complete breakdown of the contract structure yet. So it’s very possible that some of that number is incentive based, which would realistically lower the overall total.

And, secondly, Darrisaw’s four year extension is on top of his rookie deal, which still has two  years remaining. So, he’s under contract for the next six seasons at up to ~$133M. That averages out to ~$22.2M per year. For comparison, Sewell signed his four year extension that will see him earn up to ~$139M over the next six seasons.

Those totals are a lot closer to be in line with what veterans like Williams and Tunsil are making.

exactly.

The team announced it agreed to a four-year contract extension with Christian Darrisaw, who now is signed through the 2029 season on a deal that a source said could be worth up to $113 million in new money. The Lions' Penei Sewell is now the highest-paid left tackle in the NFL after having signed a four-year, $112 million deal in April; the maximum value of the new money in Darrisaw's deal would help him eclipse that figure.

Shelley might just be a camp body, right?

hard to say, comes down to whether he's playing even better than before....

The Vikings re-signed cornerback Duke Shelley, whose feisty coverage tactics endeared him to fans during the second half of the Vikings' 13-4 season two years ago. Shelley played in 11 games that season, starting five games after his overtime pass breakup against Dawson Knox helped the Vikings hang on for a dramatic 33-30 overtime win in Buffalo. Two games later, the 5-foot-9 corner broke up a would-be touchdown pass for 6-foot-1 Patriots receiver Kendrick Bourne in the Vikings' Thanksgiving night win over New England. For the season, he finished with an interception and eight pass defenses to go with 31 tackles.

Shelley was in training camp with the Raiders last season and spent the 2023 season with the Rams after he was cut at the end of camp. In Los Angeles, he played 190 snaps on special teams and 76 on defense.

So why did they say he signed a 4 year $113 deal?  So that deal does not even go into effect until his rookie deal is done?

So his base salary next year is only $4 mil or so and still on the rookie deal then.  If so that makes more sense and explains why he is not claimed as the highest paid OT because he is not at least next year.

"Christian Darrisaw signed a 4 year , $113,000,000 contract with the Minnesota Vikings, including $77,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $28,250,000.  In 2024, Darrisaw will earn a base salary of $2,479,928, while carrying a cap hit of $4,246,499."

Good for Christian because he has a ways to go and should not be considered the highest paid OL in the NFL, not by far and I am sure Trent Williams is upset with his contract currently because really he is the best LT in the NFL when healthy and behind him and soon to be passing him is Sewell and Wirfs.  Would be nice to have a guy like Sewell who is two years younger than Darrisaw and is more dominating all the way around but at least the Vikings got a solid OT to build around which is great.

Think if they did not trade back in 2021 and drafted Alijah Vera-Tucker at OG 14th overall.  He has only started 12 games in the last two years, 7 one year and 5 the next so is clearly injured a ton and honestly he is just ok at the position.   Then again they could have got Slater if the Chargers did not take him and he is top 10 LT easily in the NFL when healthy, but Darrisaw is probably better because he does not get hurt as much and is a bit longer as well.

With all of the contract issues the cowboys seem to find themselves in the middle of, you wonder how much of it is due to Jerry’s unwillingness to open up the wallet.

The Cowboys are the most valuable team in the league, and the Jones family is just raking in the money. But the Cowboys are looking at $200M in just signing bonus money for those three players. Thats a lot of cash for an owner to tuck away.

The Vikings roster, defensive coordinator and system have changed considerably since Duke Shelley walked the halls of Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center, but he said Wednesday he "felt like I was back home."

The 27-year-old had been maintaining his personal training in his hometown of Atlanta and hoping for a phone call.

"It came, and I jumped right on it," said Shelley, who received an outpouring of support from Vikings fans on social media. He thanked them with the following post on X (formerly Twitter).

"Like you haven't seen your family in a long time, and you come back home and everybody's just congratulating you and welcoming you in. It feels good to be back."

Nice! I liked Jabril Cox coming out of NDSU/LSU, hopefully he can show something!
