Also explains my love for sausage and sauerkraut... and just sausage Reubens are the best sandwich ever made. Not with that bull*** dressing though. But the stuff from the ACTUAL 1000 islands in upstate New York. Holy hell man that stuff is lifechanging. Still have kielbasa, ham, sauerkraut (with Grey Poupon) and cheesy potatoes to this day for every family Xmas gathering.

(Aks are russian) My older brother and I were born there. My parents split when I was 4. My old man decided to not reenlist, and moved back to the States and brought us with him. She didn't put up much fight to keep us. She was young. Gave her a new lease on life. I have a half brother by her who I haven't seen in over a decade. I have another half brother in Germany I've never met by my Dad, he knocked up the broad he was nailing behind my mom's back.lol I've mentioned before that I have two brothers in the Air Force. That's my older brother, same mom n dad, and my lil half brother from my dad after we moved back to the States. Running tally: 1 full brother, 2 half brothers I know and 1 I don't, plus a half sister my old man heard about years later after he knocked a girl up in highschool before the Army, but didn't Know it. He was being all he can be, I guess.

We do homemade kielbasa, a variety of perogies , salmon cakes and a bunch of other ethnic stuff. And you might well be right about Reuben sandwiches...love them. Sauerkraut/cabbage is disgusting, there are 20 different meats better than corned beef, Rye bread comes in at like #12 on the bread rankings list, Swiss cheese is foul considering its made from bacteria releasing acids and I would never put 1000 island on a salad. But together in harmony on a sandwich something happens man.....

I had a great Rueben (sans 1000K) on Kelly's Island a few weeks ago.

We had a young flat mate, not good looking, not particularly smart, did not have a good job. Women were lining up to jump in bed with him. They were lining up for him like he was an NBA player. Tell me how Thousand Island and Crab Louie are healthy. I am under the (educated?) belief that neither are remotely good for a human being, tasty or not.
