My gut feeling is that these accusations are true, I'm waiting to see how many of this woman's fellow 2013 cheerleaders come forward to corroborate her story, that'd be a good start. Only time will tell, it's been less than a day, we need to see how this plays out. As for how it compares, read more into it. Assuming the accusations are true, they were 1. Taken on a "mandatory boat outing" 2. Had their passports taken 3. Had liquor shots given to them via Turkey Basters 4. Made to pose topless in front of rich businessmen 5. Required to serve as escorts for nightclub events 6. Encouraged to participate in "Twerking contests" for cash prizes. If true, this is very much somewhere between "sexual harassment" and being pimped out. It was 5 women in the original article I believe, and I would still not put it on the level of Weinstein, but still abhorent and probably illegal. I absolutely believe the story and from what I've seen, the overwhelming majority of NFL fans also believe them. Thats why I want to know exactly what the cheerleaders who "refuted" the story said. Are they calling the original girls liars or are they just saying that they didn't personally feel upset or uncomfortable by those events? Because those are completely different things. I fully expect to be flamed by some very passionate Redskins fans, but this really is a bad look IMO. Why do so many people think Redskins fans are going to come to the rescue of Dan and Bruce? Even Doug Farrar tried to make fun of Redskins fans running to the defense of the organization. The overwhelming majority of fans despise the people running this organization. While the lack of success is definitely part of the problem, it's not like Dan Snyder has been a model of decency as a human being with just this one thing being an exception. A few years ago, the Washington City Paper (think third tier alt-weekly level circulation) ran a front page article about the sins of Dan Snyder. Long and lengthy issues he's had with the town and the city. Of course, Snyder in his infinite stupidity sued the paper and activated the Streisand Effect. That's irresponsible journalism and let's be honest, these guys do most of their work through twitter now. His tweet implies that two women who were also on the team have basically called the original article bogus, whether that's what he meant or not, or if it's the truth or not, that's how a lot of people will take it. He could have very easily provided a source to that and didn't.
